WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has provided an update on the biopic being made about his life, revealing who he’s pushing for to play him in the movie.
Angle announced in October last year that a script has been written for a movie about his Olympic career, which was being shopped around.
Ahead of production, the former WWE Champion has revealed more details about the project.
Speaking on Talk is Jericho, Angle noted that the current plan is to do one film on his Olympic wrestling career, then another covering his pro-wrestling life, stating:
“I dove into this movie that I’m having done about my life’s sports story. The directors are (names). They’re really talented directors. The reason why I picked them is because they were wrestlers in high school and college, so they understand my sport.
“So we got the ball rolling with that, and now we’re getting investors, and we’re gonna start picking the cast soon. This movie’s only about my Olympics story, not my WWE story.
“There’re gonna be actually two movies, ‘Angle 1’ and ‘Angle 2’. One is for the Olympics, and the other one’s after, my WWE and TNA career, everything after that. It was just too much to put in one movie.”
Naming actors they have in mind to star in the movie, Angle said:
“We have in mind Michael Keaton to play John du Pont. Jon Bernthal, my nephew, is gonna play my father, which will be really cool.”
Noting that they’ve been pushing for Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans lead Gabe LaBelle to play him, Angle said:
“Right now, it’s a Canadian kid, believe it or not, Gabe LaBelle, we’ve been pushing that. He did the ‘Saturday Night’ movie.
“He did a lot of movies with Jon Bernthal. He’s a really popular upcoming actor. The thing is, he needs to put a little more size on his body, but I don’t think that’ll be a problem for him.”
We will continue to provide updates on this movie as they become available.
