It was noted yesterday that NXT star Kushida had been moved to the alumni section on WWE.com.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select later confirmed that the Japanese star had indeed left the promotion, and that he would be making inquiries into the reason for the departure.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted the reason Kushida has left is that his contract has expired, and that he is set to return to New Japan later this year.
“He is done. His contract expired. It was not a secret that he wasn’t gonna stay. I know in WWE the belief is that he starts with New Japan in June. So, that’s what they believe and it’s probably the case.”

A June return to New Japan would suggest we might be seeing Kushida at Dominion on June 12.
His last match for NXT 2.0 was on March 22 on NXT Level Up, when he and Jacket Time tag partner Ikemen Jiro lost to Edris Enofe and Malik Blade.
Kushida did appear on last week’s NXT 2.0 after being advertised for a match against Von Wagner, but Wagner attacked him backstage before facing Jiro instead.
During his time in WWE, Kushida won the NXT Cruiserweight Championship on a single occasion. We wish him well in his future.
