Some last minute changes to a major NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver match have been revealed in a new report.
During the main event of the first night of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, Raquel Gonzalez faced Io Shirai for the NXT Women’s Championship. According to a new report, this match was originally intended to go on longer than it did.
As per Fightful Select (subscription required) this major title match was cut short because a previous match on the card overran.
On a normal NXT TakeOver card, matches going for longer than planned wouldn’t be a big issue as WWE pay-per-views don’t often have hard out times.
Yesterday’s card was also broadcast on the USA Network however, as a TV special. Because of this, the first night of NXT TakeOver had to fit in the usual 2 hour NXT timeslot.
Gonzalez pinned Io Shirai in just under 16 minutes to become the new NXT Women’s Champion. She was not the only new champion crowned on the show, with MSK winning the vacant NXT Tag Team Championship in the match prior.
The first night of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver was the last NXT show to air on Wednesday, before the weekly show moves to Tuesday nights next week. Triple H has addressed the reports claiming that he mentioned AEW in a recent NXT talent meeting.
