Latest On AEW Involvement With NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 AEW

AEW President Tony Khan has provided an update on the possibility of AEW stars appearing at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17.

Next year’s annual NJPW Tokyo Dome event will see Wrestle Kingdom return to a one-night format, with Wrestle Kingdom 17 set for January 4, 2023.

In August it was reported that there were some tentative plans for certain AEW stars to wrestle on the show.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio in the lead-up to All Out, Tony Khan pointed out that January 4 falls on a Wednesday next year.

Explaining why he’s ‘not thrilled’ about that, Khan said:

“One challenge this year that we’ll have to keep an eye on is the Tokyo Dome is on a Wednesday. That hurts you on Friday because you can keep Wednesday strong but you lose four big stars and that can hurt you on Friday. I really want to rebuild Friday.

“I’m not thrilled about it, but I’m gonna do my best to support them because they are our partner, but I also can’t send everyone over there. If it was the weekend, I’d send the house because that’s the kind of partners we are. It’s a really great relationship because we already have gotten to talk about that, but we have to do Dynamite and a good chance that maybe Rampage will be taped that day.

AEW and NJPW notably held a ‘Forbidden Door’ joint show in June.

NJPW star Great-O-Khan recently shared his honest thoughts on the AEW roster, naming the one star he believes has the potential to be ‘the best’.
