Here is the latest on former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega’s recovery, amid speculation about his potential return to the ring.
In the first round of the AEW Trios Championship tournament, the Young Bucks will team with a mystery partner to face off against Andrade El Idolo, Dragon Lee & RUSH.
It has been heavily speculated that the Young Bucks’ partner will be Kenny Omega, who has been out of action since November 2021, recovering from multiple surgeries.
Per Fightful Select (subscription required), Omega confirmed that he originally hoped to be back by Forbidden Door, which ultimately didn’t happen.
The report noted that in July tentative AEW plans were shifted, with the discussed FTR vs Young Bucks match changed. Several AEW names were reportedly told that this was down to Omega’s impending return and plans for Omega to team with Matt & Nick Jackson in the Trios Championship tournament.
Kenny Omega reportedly purposefully avoided the public eye while out of action. Fightful also reports that the former AEW World Champion played an integeral role in the creation of the AEW Fight Forever console game, with his input described as ‘crucial’ by a source who worked on the game.
An update recently emerged on the length of Omega’s AEW contract, which you can read about right here.
