Here’s the latest update on Samoa Joe after he vacated the NXT Championship this past Sunday just days before tonight’s big NXT reboot.

In the video he posted on Twitter to make the announcement, Joe had said that he had been told by WWE Medical to take time out of the ring due to injuries, and that’s why he relinquished the title.

As per PWInsider, this is true and it was WWE Medical that made the call that Samoa Joe needed to be taken out of the ring, and it’s not like the whole thing is a work or anything.

The report notes that there’s no timetable for his return, but he isn’t expected to be out of action for an extended period of time.

After WWE Medical said he needed time out of the ring, that’s when the decision was made to “turn a negative into a positive” by taking the title off him and turning the four-way on tonight’s show into a championship match.

Unless things change, it’ll be Kyle O’Reilly, LA Knight, Pete Dunne or Tommaso Ciampa that walk out of tonight as the new NXT Champion to kick off the brand’s new era.
