Here’s the latest news on two WWE stars who requested their release from the company over a month ago, and had that request denied.
Last night’s May 9 episode of NXT on the USA Network played host to an NXT Tag Team Championship match as Mark Coffey and Wolfgang of Gallus defended the championship against The Dyad – the team of Rip Fowler and Jagger Reid, who are members of the group known as Schism.
Fowler and Reid, formerly Zack Gibson and James Drake of the Grizzled Young Veterans, tweeted in April that their requests to be released by WWE weren’t granted, and they’d be free agents in mid-October.
Since then, they’ve continued to be used on NXT TV, but last night, were unsuccessful in challenging for the NXT Tag Team Championship.
Gallus’ win was thanks in large part to distractions on the outside, notably Ivy Nile of Diamond Mine coming out and brawling with Ava of Schism.
Nonetheless, after the match, Reid/Drake took to Twitter to address the match, as well as seemingly The Dyad’s current status and approach to working for WWE.
He wrote:
Be proud of who you are. Be proud of the work you do. Regardless, we’ll always put on a show for you.
Reid had posted that exact same tweet after a match on the April 28 episode of Level Up which saw The Dyad beat Hank Walker and Tank Ledger.
Here’s a rundown of what happened on the May 9 episode of NXT:
Tiffany Stratton def. Gigi Dolin in the NXT Women’s Championship tournament
Mark Coffey & Wolfgang def. The Dyad to retain the NXT Tag Team Championship after distractions on the outside including a brawl between Ava and Ivy Nile
Duke Hudson def. Javier Bernal
Eddy Thorpe def. Damon Kemp
Ilja Dragunov def. Dijak via DQ when Dijak attacked Dragunov with a steel chair and continued the attack post-match
Charlie Dempsey w/Drew Gulak def. Tyler Bate w/Wes Lee after Joe Gacy came out and punched Bate
Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen def. Hank Walker & Tank Ledger
Lyra Valkyria def. Kiana James in the NXT Women’s Championship tournament
Bron Breakker def. Trick Williams, then continued to attack Williams post-match before Carmelo Hayes tried to make the save, but Breakker laid him out as well
