Latest On WWE Plans For Roman Reigns Next Title Challenger WWE

Here’s the latest on backstage plans for Roman Reigns’ next WWE Universal Championship challenger, ahead of Money in the Bank.

It was previously reported that Riddle was pencilled in to face the Tribal Chief at the July 2 WWE Premium Live Event.

Since then, Riddle has formed a tag-team with Shinsuke Nakamura. The duo scored a victory over WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos in a Championship Contenders match on Monday’s (May 29) edition of Raw.

Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, as of earlier this week, the plan was for the Riddle & Nakamura vs Usos tag title match to take place at Money in the Bank.

Noting that no final decision has been made on Reigns’ next opponent, Meltzer wrote:

“As of midweek the plan was for the title match to be on the 7/2 Money in the Bank show in Las Vegas. If that’s the case, that would mean the original main event scheduled for that show, Riddle challenging Roman Reigns for the double title, wouldn’t happen. As of this week, no final decision had been made whether Reigns’ next title defense would be on 7/2, or to wait for SummerSlam on 7/30, where Randy Orton was the scheduled opponent.

Reigns hasn’t defended his title on TV since defeating Brock Lesnar in their WWE vs Universal Title Unification bout at WrestleMania 38 in April.
