Lawsuit Filed Against Jon Moxley & AEW For ‘Civil Assault & Battery’ & More AEW

A lawsuit has been filed against All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and its current world champion Jon Moxley (Jonathan Good).

A suit filed in the state of Michigan dated May 30, 2025 lists AEW and Moxley as defendants, and the plaintiff as Christopher Francis Dispensa.

Dispensa had been working for AEW as a contractor via a third party as a production worker.

As originally reported by Sports Illustrated, the suit alleges an incident during a steel cage match between Moxley and Kenny Omega on AEW Dynamite in May 10, 2023 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

According to the suit, Dispensa was tasked with holding a screwdriver, which Moxley would then take from Dispensa and use in the match.

However, the suit alleges that upon retrieving the screwdriver from Dispensa, Moxley “unexpectedly deviated from the planned script by placing his hands on Plaintiff’s face and shoulder and violently shoving Plaintiff to the ground.”

The alleged incident can be seen in the video attached below this article at around 3:52.

The suit states this resulted in Dispensa having to undergo cervical spine surgery, shoulder surgery and suffering “other serious injuries that necessitate significant medical treatment.”

The counts listed in the suit are as follows:

Count 1 – Negligent Hiring, Training, Supervision & Retention as to defendant AEW

Count 2 – Civil Assault & Battery as to defendant Moxley

Count 3 – General Negligence as to defendant Moxley and defendant AEW

Count 4 – Gross Negligence as to defendant Moxley and defendant AEW

Count 5 – Premises Liability as to defendant AEW

Count 6 – Respondeat Superior (Vicarious Liability) as to defendant AEW

As for Damages, Dispensa is seeking damages “including, but not limited to”:

Medical Expenses

Disability

Permanent and serious disfigurement

Wage Loss and Lost Earnings Capacity

Pain and suffering

Exemplary damages for mental and emotional anxiety, humiliation and/or indignity

Diminution in business reputation and opportunities

Other economic and noneconomic damages not yet known

All other damages available under Michigan Law

WHEREFORE, Plaintiff demands judgment against Defendants in an amount to be determined by the jury, together with costs, interest, and such other relief as this Court deems just and proper.
