Following his title win at SummerSlam, wrestling legend Masato Tanaka has thanked World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER.
At WWE SummerSlam 2024, GUNTHER defeated Damian Priest to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
Outside of his character and mic work, “The Ring General” has made a name for himself thanks to his litany of classic in-ring matches against the likes of Sheamus, Ilja Dragunov and more.
In a recent interview with Gorilla Position, the new champion named Masato Tanaka vs. Mike Awesome from ECW One Night Stand as a match that he found very entertaining. He said:
“I’m really bad with stuff like that. There’s one match I watched over and over, and it’s not my style, but it entertained the hell out of me. It’s Masato Tanaka against Mike Awesome from the first ECW One Night Stand.”
“What a car crash of a match. I think it’s a little bit of a hidden gem, but that entertained the hell out of me, even though that’s nothing I would ever aspire to do myself. I think just for me personally, for my entertainment, let’s pick that one,”
Tanaka took to social media to respond to the clip of GUNTHER’s comments. Thanking the World Heavyweight Champion, the former ECW Heavyweight Champion wrote:
Thank you Gunther. Although I lost this match, it was the best one I’ve ever in
