Lexis King has explained how the “Brian Pillman Jr.” name made him feel trapped.
On the NXT Halloween Havoc Night 1 episode, former AEW star Lexis King made his debut for the company in a win over Dante Chen.
Two weeks later, King found himself in the main event segment and interjected himself in the ongoing storyline between Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams.
There are definitely big things planned for the former Brian Pillman Jr., but many fans have wondered his feelings on the WWE name change since his arrival.
In a recent interview with Reality of Wrestling, King explained the difficulty in trying to escape the shadow of his father, especially with having his same name. He said:
“I feel like I never had a choice, it was always in my blood. From the day he decided he was going to name me Brian Pillman, I was trapped and it was everywhere I’d go,”
“I couldn’t escape that legacy and I couldn’t escape all the reminders of him — and to be fair, he didn’t exactly leave me a choice, he left me on this earth without anything.”
“I have to go back out there and reclaim it all and the best way to do that with my genetics and my personality and what I inherited from him indirectly, is to be a pro wrestler.”
Lexis King was featured in a segment with Baron Corbin on the November 14 episode of WWE NXT.
As previously reported, King has explained why his new character is 100% real elsewhere in the interview.
