As has been reported, former WWE Superstar, Shad Gaspard disappeared in the ocean over the weekend while spending time at the beach with his family. In what can only be described as a selfless event, Gaspard put family first up until what could be the very end.
Kenichi Haskett, Section Chief of the LA County Fire Department – Lifeguard Division spoke with ESPN and described the Life Guard who responded to the incidents report of the story:
“The best way I can describe it is like being inside a front-loading washing machine. The waves keep crashing on you, pushing you down. … I’ve been through that, those kind of rescues. You think you might die.
The lifeguard tried to deliver a
“rescue can but because of the size of the waves, the boy couldn’t secure it. Based on the gentlemen’s size and the conditions in the water…,these are choices we do not want to make.”
According to the Life Guard’s report. Gaspard told the Life Guard to save my son and told his son to push off to the guy [life guard].
The Life Guard recounted that once he had his son safely on the shore, he turned around and saw Gaspard.
“A wave pushed him under in the impact zone. He didn’t resurface after that.”
As a father myself who has lost a child, I can understand the willingness to put your life in front of your own children’s. Our hearts are breaking for the family affected by this tragedy.
