Liv Morgan Admits She ‘Hated’ Recent Match Finish WWE

Liv Morgan finally achieved her dream back at Money In The Bank, when she retrieved the Women’s Money In The Bank briefcase to open the show, before cashing in her opportunity later in the night, defeating Ronda Rousey to become the SmackDown Women’s Champion.

Liv was immediately thrown to the wolves during her reign, as she had to defend her title against Rousey in a rematch at SummerSlam. Morgan managed to escape with the championship in a finish that has since been criticised by fans.

The finish saw Morgan pin Rousey’s shoulders to the mat while being locked in an armbar, but Morgan tapped out just as the referee counted Rousey down. The finish resulted in Morgan, who to that point had been a beloved babyface champion, being booed by the SmackDown crowd the following week.

Liv Morgan spoke to Ariel Helwani of BT Sport ahead of last weekend’s Clash at the Castle event in Cardiff, where she admitted that she kind of expected to be booed by the crowd after the finish to the SummerSlam match.

She said:

“It was interesting. It was kind of something that I halfway expected, because I feel like, in a way, the fans felt like I let them down, you know? Because I feel like the ending of the match, because of its controversy, they felt indifferent. They wanted me, I think, to get a clean, solid win, but I was facing the Baddest Woman on the Planet, who has years, and years, and years, and years, and years of mixed martial arts experience, and I outlasted two armbars and I did my absolute best in that very moment, and so they weren’t happy with the conclusion of the match. But at the end of the day, the referee’s decision is final, but and I’m still the SmackDown Women’s Champion and the only woman to beat Ronda Rousey twice.”

When Helwani then pressed Morgan to ‘break the fourth wall’ in regards to her thoughts on the SummerSlam finish, she admitted:

“I hated it. It’s not the way that I would have hoped for it to go. But at the end of the day, I’m still SmackDown Women’s Champion, and I guess that’s genuinely all I really care about.”

Morgan went on to retain her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Shayna Baszler at Clash at the Castle, while Rousey had her suspension lifted by Adam Pearce on last week’s episode of SmackDown.
