WWE SmackDown 1000 Live Results

03:08am

Well, that was SmackDown 1000, and it was quite good…

I think?

We’ve got new SmackDown Tag Team Champions thanks to the Big Show, seeds planted for a potential Batista vs. Triple H match somewhere down the line, two new World Cup qualifiers, and Undertaker said three whole words.

That was a show definitely rammed full of stuff, but everything felt rushed. I can understand the desperation from WWE to get as many big names as the show, what with the poor TV viewership recently, but it just felt like a bit of a mess at times.

03:03am

This was the entire promo:

Cheers Mark, that was completely worth the trip, wasn’t it.

02:57am

Rey Mysterio def. Shinsuke Nakamura – World Cup qualifier

In what was a sound-but-maybe-slightly-disappointing match, Rey Mysterio counters a couple of Kinshasas and manages to land a 619 to become the eighth man qualified for Crown Jewel‘s World Cup tournament.

Just a few seconds after Rey gets the win, the iconic GONG of the Undertaker’s theme music rings around the arena, as he makes his way to the ring.

02:37am

The Bar def. New Day (c) – WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships

Oh.

Well, that was a good match because matches involving New Day and the Bar always are, but… the Big Show walked down to ringside, Chokeslammed Kofi Kingston (not competing) through a table, and the distraction allowed Sheamus to land a Brogue Kick on Big E and the Bar are the new SmackDown Tag Champions.

The only reason I can fathom for this to make any sort of sense is that it’s leading to a Big E singles push that involves him beating Big Show?

I mean… it’s cool, and I like it because it’s intriguing, but, yeah. That was very odd indeed.

Up next, it’s the main event, as Rey Mysterio and Shinsuke Nakamura clash in a World Cup qualifier.

02:25am

So it’s time for a random SmackDown Tag Team Championship match between New Day and the Bar for some reason.

Because New Day are wrestling, they’ve offered up their custom announce table to… Booker T and Jerry Lawler. My ears’ worst nightmare.

We’re only a couple minutes in and Booker’s already blessing us with his wisdom:

“People say that’s taking shortcuts, I say that’s just tag team (.) working together right there.”

Brilliant insight into the business from the Hall of Famer.

02:16am

Becky Lynch is the best, everyone else can move aside now.

Edge decided it was a good idea to advise Becky against turning on her friends and focusing on herself, because that’s not what took the ‘Ultimate Opportunist’ to all his World Championships or anything.

Becky then turned on the swag, stood up, and told Edge to get out of her ring. Honestly, she really is fantastic. The crowd were, of course, firmly behind her.

But then Charlotte came out and ruined everyone’s fun by attacking Lynch before the pair were pulled apart by officials.

“HERE THEY GO AGAIN!”

Yeah, that’s what everyone else is thinking and rolling their eyes at the same time.

01:59am

The Miz def. Rusev – WWE World Cup to determine the best in the world qualifier

Neither man got an entrance, and the match lasted approximately 0.4 seconds, as Aiden English distracted Rusev, allowing Miz a roll-up.

Then Rusev battered English.

I was looking forward to that match more than anything else on this show… so… yeah. I’m a bit disappointed here.

Up next, despite reports he wasn’t going to be able to make the show, Edge is making his return to host the ‘Cutting Edge’ with SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair.

01:56am

Well, unfortunately, the whole Evolution reunion was largely a pointless exercise UNTIL…

All four men spoke about each others’ careers and praised each other, but things did get a little bit interesting towards the end.

Batista ran down Triple H’s accolades, finishing off with “There is nothing that this man hasn’t done in this business…except beat me!”

A bit of a staredown then ensued with Randy Orton pulling an unintentionally hilarious ‘awkward’ face…

And then they hugged. Ah well, at least Ric looked like he was enjoying himself.

Potential seeds planted for the future though. Maybe we’ll see Batista vs. Triple H in the main event of WrestleMania 35 because we’d all love to see that.

01:36am

The Usos def. AJ Styles & Daniel Bryan

A big win for the Usos as Bryan and Styles fail to coexist as a team, following a miscued blow from the number one contender that accidentally struck the WWE Champion.

This led to a Double Superkick to both men from the Usos who got the win.

And then Vickie Guerrero, Teddy Long and John Laurinaitus showed up backstage for about seven seconds because why would they do something meaningful when they can just do that, eh?

Up next, it’s the return of Evolution! Who were actually only ever on Raw, but they won’t tell you that.

01:20am

Vince gets in the ring, shouts at Shane and Steph for arguing, and then calls for a dance break, because the E in WWE stands for Entertainment.

Well, luckily for everyone involved, that’s over, and coming up next WWE Champion AJ Styles teams up with his Crown Jewel opponent Daniel Bryan in tag team action.

Good lord.

01:15am

HOLD ON A MINUTE.

The big man’s here.

Shane and Steph were bickering for a couple of minutes because of course they were and now Mr. McMahon is in the ring, serenaded by the Washington live audience.

01:11am

After a neat video packaging highlighting the most memorable moments in SmackDown history, the show opens with Truth TV hosted by R-Truth and Carmella.

A couple of dance breaks later, they introduce their first guest of the night, and it’s…

Stephanie McMahon. Oh.

Before Truth can get the interview kicked off though, Steph’s brother and current SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon.

Things may get interesting here. (They also may not.)

Well, here it is. The 1000th episode of SmackDown is upon us, and ever since its inception in 1999, the blue brand is the show we look to for support when its older brother Raw absolutely sucks.

Turns out this week is no different.

We’ve got Hall of Fame returns, World Cup qualifiers, and… Byron Saxton all coming our way tonight. Here’s what we’ve got to look forward to over the next couple of hours:

  • Rey Mysterio vs. Shinsuke Nakamura – World Cup qualifier
  • Rusev vs. The Miz – World Cup qualifier
  • Evolution reunite
  • Undertaker does a thing
  • Appearances from:

One thing we won’t be seeing though, is the retro fist stage, which is quite the shame.
