Here we are once again for our live coverage of AEW Dynamite. The Wednesday Night War has gotten tighter over the last month, with NXT closing the gap considerably. We will see what AEW does this week as we approach the New Year. The following has been announced for the show:
- Texas Street Fight – Santana & Ortiz vs. The Young Bucks
- Kenny Omega & Hangman Page vs. Shawn Spears & Kip Sabian
- Luchasaurus vs. Sammy Guevara
- Big Swole vs. Emi Sakura
- Cody & QT Marshall vs. The Butcher & The Blade w/ The Bunny
- MJF Addresses Cody
Texas Street Fight - Young Bucks def. Santana & Ortiz
Santana, Ortiz and Sammy Guevara jumped the Young Bucks on the stage and put Brandon Cutler through the stage when he tried to interfere. The Young Bucks took out Guevara with an IndieTaker and hit a massive senton bomb through a table to take out Ortiz.
Eventually, Ortiz through the loaded sock to Santana who used it to break down the Bucks. They put a trash can over Nick Jackson and beat him with objects before Matt came in wearing a Dallas Cowboys football helmet. If this is realistic the Young Bucks just jinxed themselves by wearing a helmet worn by losers. Dallas fans I’m sorry but you know its true.
The Bucks and Santana and Ortiz all went through table as the show went to commercial. When we came back, Nick Jackson hit a 450 Splash with a trash can on Ortiz but the pin was broken up by Jake Hager. Nick accidentally kicked referee Rick Knox and Dustin Rhodes came down to brawl with Hager.
The Bucks hit More Bang for your Buck but there was no referee. Aubrey Edwards ran down but Ortiz kicked out. Nick was put through a table and Santana and Ortiz hit the Street Sweeper on Matt. Nick broke up the pin and Santana got put through another table. Nick hit a superkick on Ortiz as Matt held a chair in front of his face and followed up with a Meltzer Driver on chair for the win.
This was a crazy but fantastic main event and a great way to cap off a great show. The Young Bucks are now the number one contenders for the AEW World Tag Team Championships and they will get that match next week. Absolutely a fantastic show. They go off the air with the Young Bucks and SoCal Uncensored going face to face.
AEW Announces Next PPV
AEW announced their next pay per view event, Revolution for February 29th in Chicago. It seems curious that they would be going to Chicago for ANOTHER pay per view but I’m sure they know their business better than I do.
Luchasaurus w/ Jurassic Express def. Sammy Guevara
Luchasaurus got the win with a front slam out of a tombstone position after another really entertaining match. Luchasaurus still looks like he is labouring over his injury a bit but he was able to still have a really good match.
Sammy Guevara wrestled the perfect style for a small heel against a large babyface. He was trying to use his agility to chop the big man down but Luchasaurus was still impressive and athletic enough that he wasn’t overshadowed. Really entertaining and the post match was just as good.
Afterwards, Jericho and Hager, who had been doing commentary, hit the ring. They took out Luchasaurus but Jungle Boy ran in and fought Jericho. He hit a hurricanrana into a pin and Marko Stunt counted a three-count.
The story for next week clearly seems to be that Jungle Boy is able to pin Jericho but will he be able to do it in a match. Personally, I am really looking forward to this match. Jungle Boy is really good and Jericho has been fantastic all year. This should be a winning combination.
Brandi Rhodes Promo
Brandi Rhodes just did a promo running down everyone in the AEW Women’s division. There wasn’t much to it. This thing she is doing is just not working and she would do much better as someone a little more real.
Kenny Omega & Hangman Page def. Shawn Spears & Kip Sabian
Kenny Omega is still over despite his lack of push thus far in AEW. It’s not too surprising but it still goes to show that they are not doing nearly enough with him. He is so crisp in his movements in the ring and it stands out.
Sabian and Penelope Ford are a great duo so far. She hit a hurricanrana on Page and a roundoff back-handspring on Omega while the ref was distracted. While Sabian and Omega were wrestling, the lights went out and when they came back on Joey Janela had Tully Blanchard tied up on the stage. Spears ran off to save his manager, leaving Sabian to take the fall.
Omega hit a pair of V-Triggers and Hangman Page made the blind tag and hit the Buckshot Lariat for the win. Omega looked confused at the blind tag but still content to win the match. Good match but it appears that Page is on his way towards a heel turn.
Pac was backstage and said that he wants AEW to give him his rubber match against Kenny Omega and if he does not get it then he will not be held responsible for his actions.
Big Swole def. Emi Sakura
The crowd was really behind Big Swole in this one. She is tremendously athletic and could be one of their biggest stars.
One of the highlights came when Big Swole got ahold of Sakura’s mic stand and used it to mock Sakura’s gimmick. There was a ton of really good, athletic stuff in this match. Eventually Big Swole got the win by hitting a ripcord discus forearm shot.
Really good match. Big Swole has a ton of potential and it could be really soon that we see her in the title picture.
Dark Order vignette
The Dark Order is back with their latest video. They tried to recruit Alex Reynolds to their cult through a video in his hotel room.
John Silver asked him what was going on afterwards and he seemed confused. We will see if AEW’s resident enhancement team joins the Dark Order any time soon…
MJF forced one of the technicians to get in the ring and kiss his ring for laughing at him last week. He lays out the technician anyway.
He responded to what Cody said last week, saying he doesn’t need Cody’s crap and he doesn’t need his money. He says Cody called his scarf fake but when thinks of the word fake he thinks of Cody. He thinks of Cody’s fake blonde hair, his teeth, and how he feels about the fans.
He says Cody won’t get him fired because what he wants most is to get his hands on MJF. MJF says that Cody is on but he has some stipulations. He isn’t going to tell him these stipulations tonight, he’s going to wait until they’re in Jacksonville, which will be the first Dynamite episode of 2020.
MJF finished by saying that he is in control now because he’s better than you and you know it.
People have sung the praises of MJF as a talker for most of 2019 and it still deserves to be stated that he is in an elite tier of talkers. Being so young, he could easily talk his way into an all-time great conversation if he continues at this pace. He is just that good.
The Butcher & The Blade w/ The Bunny def. Cody & QT Marshall
QT Marshall has seemed to be trying to prove himself in this match as Cody has beckoned for him to make a tag but Marshall has continued trying to fight their opponents. Obviously he was unsuccessful but that’s part of the story.
Marshall did manage to get some decent offence before getting the hot tag to Cody. Cody fired up and hit a Beautiful Disaster kick, a moonsault and a top rope OsCutter for a nearfall. Cody got caught off and made another hot tag to Marshall.
Marshall was really impressive at this part of the match, hitting some high-flying offence of their own. This was incredible to see how over QT Marshall got in one match. The Butcher and The Blade did cut Cody and Marshall off and hit their suplex-backbreaker combo for the win.
This was much better than I thought it would be and the crowd helped with that a lot. They were really into everything and the match got over big. Afterwards, Darby Allin came to ringside and offered his hand to Cody. Cody accepted and it appears that they will be allies going forward. Good stuff, keep it up.
Jon Moxley def. Alex Reynolds
Jon Moxley made quick work of Alex Reynolds, hitting him with the Regal Knee and the Paradigm Shift for the win in about 12 seconds.
Jericho came out for a promo immediately afterwards. Jericho retells his history with Moxley dating back to WWE. Jericho says he brought Moxley to AEW and Moxley repaid him by laying him out at Double or Nothing but that’s okay.
Jericho says he wants Moxley to take his time and think about an offer to join the Inner Circle. He leaves an Inner Circle shirt on Moxley’s shoulder and the Inner Circle retreats.
This was really good stuff. One of the biggest things AEW has going for it is the main event storylines make a lot of sense. It makes total sense for Jericho to at least try to recruit the number one contender to his title. Great stuff.
Welcome to WrestleTalk’s live coverage of AEW Dynamite! There is a ton of stuff announced for tonight’s episode so be ready for a packed show kicking off at the top of the hour.
