Welcome to WrestleTalk’s live coverage of this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite! The anniversary episode of the program has a loaded card and should be a stacked show. The announced card for the show is as follows:
- Kenny Omega & Hangman Page vs. Private Party
- Cody & Dustin Rhodes vs. Lucha Bros
- AEW Women’s Championship Match – Riho (c) vs. Kris Statlander
- Christopher Daniels vs. Sammy Guevara
- Jurassic Express vs. Best Friends & Orange Cassidy
- Tribute to Memphis Wrestling Legends
- Will Jon Moxley accept Chris Jericho’s offer
- Cody responds to MJF
Jon Moxley rejects Chris Jericho's offer
Jericho announced Moxley to the ring. He let him know that the car was gassed up and they are ready to party should he say yes. He finally asks the question, is Moxley in?\
Moxley says he has had a busy week, and he doesn’t think the fans know what motivates him and Jericho doesn’t either. He says he didn’t join AEW because of money and he doesn’t want any of Jericho’s money either.
He only wants to run roughshod over AEW and that’s why his answer is yes(!?!). He says there is no more dominant force in AEW than the Inner Circle and that is what he wants to be a part of. He takes off his jacket to reveal an Inner Circle shirt. Jericho celebrates with Hager and Guevara and the ring is filled with the bubbly.
The crowd started chanting “You Sold Out” at Moxley and this went a long time. Long enough for me to believe that maybe they were actually going to go off the air with this as the final word. But alas, Moxley took the keys to the very expensive car and told them to cut the music. Moxley told Jericho there was one more thing, he was just kidding. He would never join the Inner Circle. Jericho has nothing that he wants besides the AEW World Championship. He hits Jericho with a bottle of the bubbly and then hits the Paradigm Shift on Jericho and on Guevara.
Excellent final angle for the show. Everything they did had the fans biting and it paid off perfectly.
That brings out coverage of AEW Dynamite to a close for another week. We hope you enjoyed and we will see you next week.
Jurassic Express def. Best Friends & Orange Cassidy
Lots of comedy with Marko Stunt early. Jungle Boy did a lot of really athletic stuff before Luchasaurus started doing power moves and they went to a commercial. When they came back Orange Cassidy tagged in and they did all of his spots. He is so unbelievably over. White hot reactions.
Cassidy hit a big dive on Jungle Boy which was broken up by Marko. He hit a tilt-a-whirl flatliner on Chuck Taylor and a Canadian Destroyer on Trent before Luchasaurus pressed Marko over his head and threw him onto the pile. It was very cool looking.
Jungle Boy managed to get the pin with a roll up, making this the first trios win for the Jurassic Express. They announced that on the Jericho Cruise they will be facing Jericho, Santana and Ortiz.
MJF and DDP Promo
MJF comes out for a promo and the majority of what he said was cut off by commercial. When the commercial ended MJF said that Cody is a coward and he isn’t man enough to face him. MJF gave Cody to the count of ten to come out and face him and he did his countdown and no Cody.
Instead, Diamond Dallas Page came out and promoted AEW, TNT and DDP Yoga. He then talked about how since his run in with MJF and Wardlow his Twitter and Instagram have been blowing up with people asking if he’s coming back for one more match.
MJF cut him off and made fun of DDP and his age and things of that nature. He brought out the Butcher and the Blade and then said he was going to take one of DDP’s daughters and before he could say bang DDP grabbed him. DDP hit Diamond Cutters on Butcher and Blade and almost hit one on MJF but MJF hit a low blow.
QT Marshall and Dustin Rhodes came out to rescue DDP but it seems like we might be seeing a one night return of DDP sometime soon. We shall see but this was a fun segment. Too much of it was cut off by commercial but what we saw was good.
Memphis Wrestling Legends
Alex Marvez was shown backstage talking to Lanny Poffo about the Memphis Wrestling Legends segment that is going to take place on AEW Dark next week. Not much was said.
Cody & Dustin Rhodes def. Lucha Bros.
Cody has really turned himself into a hell of a wrestler. There was a time when he had to step up his game but now he really is one of the best in the business.
This was a great tag match. There was a balance of the old-school style of the Rhodes brothers and the crazy, high-flying lucha libre style of the Lucha Bros. There was a ton of good moments in this one. Rey Fenix walked the tightrope and kicked Cody in the head. Fenix also hit a bunch of dives as you would expect. Cody ended up getting a hot tag and the Rhodes brothers managed to put together a combo to win the match. Dustin hit a Canadian Destroyer on Fenix, Cody hit his top-rope cutter on Pentagon and Dustin hit Shattered Dreams on Fenix for the three. Very good match, I recommend watching it.
Afterwards, Tony Schiavone got in the ring to ask Cody about MJF’s demands. Arn Anderson took over and said that he doesn’t know who died and made MJF God but they are gonna take the next week to think it over and they will get back to them.
Sammy Guevara def. Christopher Daniels
Christopher Daniels and Sammy Guevara were having a solid match until the finish. There wasn’t a whole lot to it but they were doing a good job. Pentagon Jr. came out onto the stage and told Daniels to try and do his top rope move. This of course was in reference to Daniels botching the Arabian Press last month.
This distracted Daniels long enough for Guevara to kick him in the back of the head and get the pin. At this point the Dark Order came out and told Daniels that the AEW fans have given up on him. They say SCU is a thing of the past and he needs to join the Dark Order. Daniels contemplates putting on the mask but throws it at Evil Uno. They all jump him before he was saved by the Young Bucks and SCU.
Stu Grayson ends up being the last man left and they all gang up on him. Daniels lays him out and hits the Best Moonsault Ever to a big pop from the crowd. This was an inoffensive segment. Much better than the last Dark Order segment but they still need to be careful with how they handle this.
Kip Sabian & Penelope Ford
They aired a video package recapping Kip Sabian’s relationship with Penelope Ford and her low-blowing Joey Janela last week on Dynamite.
AEW Women's Championship Match - Riho (c) def. Kris Statlander
As good as that last match was, this was about the opposite. Brandi Rhodes was on commentary and it was not long before this whole thing broke down.
There was some decent action for a bit but Brandi’s follower pulled Riho out of the ring when the ref was down. It was basically wall-to-wall interference at this point. Awesome Kong had to be taken out by Statlander and the bald guy with Brandi revealed himself. Excalibur identified him as “Luther” a Japanese deathmatch legend. I do not know what effect this was supposed to have on anyone but I’m sure less people watching knew who this guy was than the Butcher and the Blade when they debuted.
Anyway Riho ended up getting the pin when Statlander picked her up for a tombstone and Kong tripped her. Riho fell on top and got the pin. Whatever.
After the match, Hikaru Shida, Big Swole and Sonny Kiss came out to even the odds and Britt Baker was shown in the crowd remaining unmoved.
Kenny Omega & Hangman Page def. Private Party
Hangman Page and Kenny Omega were on the same page much more in this match than they have been in recent weeks. They used chops a lot early, mostly on Isiah Kassidy. Private Party eventually took control with a lot of very impressive moves. Kassidy hit a sort of tilt-a-whirl flatliner for a nearfall and Marq Quen hit about four dives in a row. There is something about Quen’s running that I just don’t like. He seems very slow but he has tremendous leaping ability. Hopefully this is something he can work on over time.
Page and Omega had a miscommunication similar to their match with the Lucha Bros where Page hit Omega with the Buckshot Lariat. Here Omega blocked the Lariat but Page still looked frustrated.
Private Party managed to hit Gin and Juice on Omega but Page broke it up. There was a spot where Omega blocked a kick from Quen and in throwing Quen ended up hitting Page by mistake. They recovered and hit a combo V-Trigger and Buckshot Lariat to set up Omega hitting the One-Winged Angel for the three.
This was a very good match and it served to further the story between Omega and Page. If I had to guess I could see them getting an AEW World Tag Team Championship Match where they lose and do the big split.
After the match, PAC was shown attacking Michael Nakazawa backstage saying he said this would happen. He said this will continue until he gets his rubber match with Kenny Omega.
Welcome to WrestleTalk’s live coverage of AEW Dynamite! It is a pretty stacked show this week with plenty of newsworthy stuff expected to take place so stay tuned for all of our coverage when the show kicks off at the top of the hour!
