Welcome to WrestleTalk’s live coverage of the latest episode of AEW Dynamite. This is the go home show for AEW Full Gear. The following have been announced for the show:
- Cody speaks
- Kenny Omega & Hangman Page vs. Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara
- PAC vs. Trent?
- Private Party vs. Dark Order – Winner advances to Full Gear to compete for the AEW World Tag Team Titles
- Jamie Hayter & Emi Sakura vs. Riho & Shanna
Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara def. Kenny Omega & Hangman Page
This was a really fun main event. Obviously everyone involved is insanely talented and it really showed in this match. Hangman Page and Kenny Omega both hit big dives to the outside but when Page was going to go for the Buckshot Lariat PAC hit a low blow as the ref was distracted. Jericho then hit the Judas Effect on Page for the win.
After the match, all hell broke loose. Jericho, Guevara and Hager beat down Page and Omega when Cody and MJF made the save. Cody hit the Crossrhodes on Jericho and posed with the AEW Championship. At this point Moxley came through the crowd with the barbed wire bat. Omega grabbed the barbed wire broom and Santana and Ortiz attacked both men from behind. This is when the Young Bucks ran in and everyone started brawling.
Nick Jackson hit a huge flip dive off the set onto the pile of men and the show went off the air with everyone brawling with one another. Very good go home segment. It would have been good to have a promo from Kenny Omega on this show somewhere but considering everything they had to put on the show they did a very good job building up Full Gear.
With that said our coverage of AEW Dynamite comes to a close. We hope you enjoyed following along with us and we hope you join us for our live coverage of AEW Full Gear this Saturday!
Omega/Moxley Video Package
This was mostly footage from previous promos and matches but there was also some new material. Kenny Omega said that he doesn’t believe that Moxley is upset that this is an unsanctioned match. Meanwhile, Moxley said that he isn’t looking for someone to bring the best out of him, he’s looking for someone to bring the worst out of him.
Shawn Spears def. Brandon Cutler
Pretty standard enhancement match. Brandon Cutler got more offence in than an average jobber would but this was still Spears’ match to shine. It was fine but nothing special. Spears won with a Death Valley Driver.
After the match, Tully Blanchard slid a chair into the ring and as Spears went to hit a second DVD on the chair, Joey Janela ran in to make the save. Janela and Spears did an angle to close the most recent episode of AEW Dark.
This may be setting up an undercard match for AEW Full Gear but we shall see.
Emi Sakura & Jamie Hayter def. Riho & Shanna
Emi Sakura got the win for her team by pinning Riho with a La Magistral cradle. Riho was really the only person the fans cared about in this one but the action was still pretty good. Shanna and Hayter are both green but being put in the ring with experienced workers like Riho and Sakura is a good move.
Sakura pinning Riho gives her the momentum as we approach Full Gear. The finishing sequence was really good as there was a ton of really quick roll ups and reversals. Cool stuff.
Chris Jericho Video Package
This was a perfect heel video package. Chris Jericho had a bunch of people close to him singing his praises. Sammy Guevara said Jericho is the youngest AEW Champion in history at 48 years old, Virgil said that Jericho’s talent is like Olive Garden breadsticks… unlimited.
Jericho had an “Aunt’s friend from church” named Patricia Bobski (a callback to Jericho’s story about writing into his local newspaper promoting himself under the fake name Clint Bobski) who said Jericho is gonna beat the sh*t out of Cody. This was just a ton of fun. Everything about this great and it made Jericho seem like a jerk but that he is still taking the match itself seriously.
Private Party def. Dark Order
Private Party got the win over the Dark Order by hitting Gin and Juice on Stu Grayson. They will now compete in a three-way match against SCU and the Lucha Bros. for the AEW World Tag Team Championships at Full Gear.
This was a really good match. Private Party are still green but they seem to be getting better every time they wrestle. Dark Order has really fallen flat with this audience which is a shame considering how talented they are.
Cody began his promo by talking about how Eddie Graham, Bill Watts and Dusty Rhodes were all at the top of their promotions while they were also management. He has heard the people saying he is in this match only because of his position. That is why if he loses to Chris Jericho at Full Gear he will never compete for the AEW World Championship again.
Cody talked about how proud he is of what he has accomplished with AEW, the pay, the schedule, the freedom of AEW. The fans are going crazy for this. He said that Jericho called him an entitled millenial bitch but that Jericho was an upper-class son of a hockey player with the same silver spoon born in his mouth. He continued by saying that this match is not about the dead it is about the living, it is about his mom, his sister, his wife and the fourteen years it took him to go from undesirable to undeniable.
He finished by saying that Jericho needs this generation more than they need him. His group consists of impressionable youth and when the Elite battle the Inner Circle it will be a match beyond.
This was an incredible promo. You need to go out of your way to see it. Cody may be the most over babyface in pro wrestling right now and with promos like this one, that should not change anytime soon.
PAC def. Trent?
Hell of an opening match. The crowd was super hot for Trent and they were strongly against PAC. The action was good and we got a “run in” from Orange Cassidy which resulted in him being laid out.
The finish appeared that it was botched as PAC hit the Black Arrow and seemed to get the three but the referee just stopped counting at two. PAC quickly hooked in the Brutalizer and got the submission win but the fans were taken out of it.
After the match, PAC got on the mic and said that at Full Gear he is going to make an example out of Hangman Page… again.
Welcome to WrestleTalk’s live coverage of AEW Dynamite! With Full Gear just days away this promises to be a very eventful episode of Dynamite so don’t go away.
