WrestleTalk is providing live coverage of AEW: Dynamite. We’ll have several appearances tonight including MJF, Jon Moxley, and Lance Archer. We’re also getting an exciting tag match featuring the new champions. We’ll see what else the night has in store, but quite possibly the biggest match of the night will be AEW vs. NXT since this is the first time the two have gone head to head in several weeks.
Here’s what is advertised for the show:
- Parking Lot Fight: Santana/Ortiz v Best Friends
- Jericho/Hager v Private Party
- FTR v Jurassic Express
- Hangman v Kaz
- NWA Women’s Title: Thunder Rosa v Ivelisse
- MJF in Action
- Moxley & Archer speak
- Miro and Kip appearance
The main event
Santana and Ortiz are painted up like day of the dead. The match is taking place with cars parked in a circle.
This match is nuts. Ortiz gets trapped under a hood. Trent slams him in there several times and Taylor stomps him underneath.
At one point, one of the Best Friends gets slammed through a sunroof and then Santana hits a huge splash off a truck.
Santana and Ortiz are both bleeding. Trent appears to have some door stuck in his shoulder.
Trent is taking a freaking beating in this match. He’s been hit with a Powerbomb on a car, a 2×4 broken over his back, and a Double Powerbomb through a car window.
This is the most serious we’ve seen Santana and Ortiz. It’s great. This is who they should be instead of rolling in orange juice.
Trent is a bloody mess. Yuck.
I predicted a Sue drive by. Instead, Orange Cassidy was hiding in a trunk. He hits the Orange Punch with a wrapped fist. Trent hits the plunge on a massive piece of plywood in a truck. Best Friends win.
The match was great, but JR calling it one of the best ever was a bit much. They hop in a new minivan with Sue as she drives them away. Before she leaves, she gives Ortiz and Santana the middle finger. That totally got Excalibur. He genuinely laughed at that one.
That’s it for AEW: Dynamite. Man, just when you think AEW will mail one in, they deliver a really good show. All the matches were top notch tonight. Not a ton of promos, but the in-ring wrestling was great.
Make sure you follow along with us with live coverage on Friday Night for SmackDown.
Partners are picked
Lance Archer comes down to the ring. Jake Roberts cuts a promo about violence and other things. He says they need some partners and he makes a deal with the devil, the Tazmanian Devil.
Roberts announces Archer’s partners will be Cage and Starks. Taz comes out and says they have a deal. If Archer wins the title from Moxley, then Cage gets the first title shot.
Moxley comes out next. He’s in the crowd.
He starts to talk and a fan jumps him. This time the fan is Ricky Starks. Brian Cage also attacks.
They beat up Moxley until Will Hobbs cleans house with a chair. Moxley announces his partners are Will Hobbs and Darby Allin.
That should be a good match for next week’s show. The parking lot brawl is next. I can’t wait for Sue to run someone over.
Thunder Rosa defends the NWA Women's Championship
Thunder Rosa is facing Ivelisse. The match starts off with some solid action and some big-time slaps. They are putting over this being a historic match because of the NWA title.
This match hasn’t been perfect, but it is so much better than what we typically see from AEW and their women’s division. These two women hit hard and laid it on the line.
Ivelisse gave her everything that she had, but a Tombstone Piledriver from Rosa gets the win. After the match, Diamante attacks Thunder Rosa.
Shida hops the guardrail and takes out both Ivelisse and Diamante. S
he stares at the NWA title. Eventually, she gives it back to Rosa and walks off.
Backstage, Miro is working out. They talk about Kip’s bachelor party and some other things. My main takeaway from that segment is how good of shape Miro has gotten in. Wow.
Jericho and Hager are taking on Private Party
Hager and Jericho are looking to establish themselves in the tag team division. They are starting off with Private Party.
Private Party start off hot, but Hager and Jericho take control. Hager works over Quen. Cassidy gets the hot tag and runs wild on Jericho.
Jericho pulls the ref in and hager hits him with something. It may have been the baseball bat, but the camera didn’t really catch it.
Private Party makes their way back. They hit some flashy offense. Cassidy gets several near falls on Jericho. In the end, Jericho hits The Judas Effect. Inner Circle gets the win.
After the match, Jericho locks in the Walls of Jericho. Quen gets in and hits the big kick. He knocks Jericho out and stares at him. Hager pulls him out of the ring.
Then NWA Women’s title match is next.
Eddie Kingston promo
Eddie Kingston says they are a family. They aren’t a faction or a stable. Instead of getting therapy, they get violent.
They attack guys at ringside. The four of them lay out some of the Dark wrestlers and ultimately take out Griff Garrison.
Kingston says he’s got everyone ready. Kingston calls out Blade and says it’s time to get his house in order. That’s got to be about Allie. Looks like we’re heading for Natural Nightmares vs. Butcher/Blade. Or Blade vs. QT.
Personally, I’m not feeling this grouping. I like Kingston. I like him as a mouthpiece. However, this is just a weird combo. I’d be fine with him talking for either team, but for both just seems weird.
Sean Dean gets beat in about 20 seconds. MJF pokes him in the eye and then locks in The Salt of The Earth. After the match, Wardlow attacks and throws him out of the ring.
MJF cuts a promo after the match about Moxley cheating in his match at All Out. MJF would like to be referred to as the undefeated, undisputed, uncrowned champion. MJF then makes Justin Roberts announce his new moniker.
MJF says in order to get a fair shake you have to be a part of a group. MJF says it’s time he joins a Wolfpack. MJF says it might be time for him to find some guys to run with.
Who would be some guys for MJF to run with? Many will want FTR to join, but a Wolfpack tease is interesting. That brings back some NWO vibes. Cody Hall is a guy that has some ties with the Elite.
Kaz vs. Page
Kenny Omega is on commentary. He’s out for the Hangman Page match. It will be interesting to see how this goes.
Hangman stares at Omega. Omega acts awkward on commentary and continues to reiterate he is interested in a singles run.
Omega is quite good on commentary. He’s put over both men. However, he is talking about how Hangman doesn’t have him backing him up and how he wants to see how Page responds.
This match is hard-hitting and has a ton of high impact moves. As both guys are normally tag guys, the commentary team are putting over how tired they are. Omega is really pushing the story that Hangman is running out of gas.
Omega continues to call Hangman just a tag team guy where he’s a singles competitor. Hangman hits The Buckshot Lariat and finally puts away Kaz.
Man, that was one of the best matches in quite a while on Dynamite. Kenny is off of commentary and heads to the back. Page looked fantastic. Page looks back and sees Kenny is gone.
Backstage, Hardy is laid out. It appears someone attacked him. He was advertised to be in Private Party’s corner tonight.
Jericho and Hager walk up and make fun of him. Jericho has his bat. It’s clear that Jericho and the bat are the ones responsible for the attack.
The Young Bucks have a super kick party
Jurassic Express and FTR are kicking off the show. The Young Bucks show up and Superkick the ref before the match starts. They pass FTR on their way back to the locker room. That’s interesting.
FTR and Jurassic Express is underway now. These guys have been going at it all day on Twitter. Seems like the dislike could be real, but it’s most likely Kayfabe.
This is a clash of styles between these two teams. I guess most matches will be for FTR in AEW.
They isolate Jungle Boy after Wheeler catches him with a Powerslam. Eventually, Luchasaurus gets the hot tag. The two teams trade near falls and big moves.
A near fall by Jungle Boy after a roll-up. This match has been very enjoyable. Luchasaurus gets tossed into the crowd. This leaves Jungle Boy all alone.
FTR gets the pin as they cheat to get the win. Both Tully and Wheeler help Harwood during the cover. FTR are trying to be the old school heels and bring back the simple cheating moves we haven’t seen in a lot of years.
