Jon Moxley def. Tetsuya Naito
Unreal. Absolutely unbelievable. Jon Moxley may have just cashed his ticket to the G1 Climax Final. Moxley hit Naito with the Death Rider and an elevated Death Rider to get the shocking victory. I would never have guessed that Jon Moxley would be sitting at 5-0-0 in this tournament.
The match was great although a slight step back from the last few main events. Just because of Naito’s style, the match was slower than Moxley’s match with Tomohiro Ishii. Regardless, the match was great and should be watched.
After the match, Moxley said that his bandwagon is getting full and this is people’s last chance to stop doubting him. He will win the G1 Climax. At this point, it is looking more and more likely.
That brings our coverage of Day 10 of the G1 Climax to a close, thank you as always for following along with us.
Jay White def. Shingo Takagi
Jay White keeps his momentum going by hitting Bladerunner on Shingo Takagi for the win. White had a slow start to his tournament but now seems to be on the right track. His most important opponents are still ahead of him.
This match was a good contrast of styles. White did his usual shtick of running to the outside at the beginning of the match and using Gedo as a distraction towards the end. Shingo is great and proved again here but White just had him outnumbered and outsmarted.
Jon Moxley vs. Tetsuya Naito in the main event is next.
Jeff Cobb def. TAICHI
Jeff Cobb picks up his second win of the tournament by pinning TAICHI with the Tour of the Islands. Cobb countered much of TAICHI’s underhanded techniques and finally managed to fire up and hit his standing moonsault and the Tour for the win.
This match just came across really slow. Cobb is obviously not the quickest cat but TAICHI is just not the ideal opponent for him. The crowd was really into Cobb’s power spots but did not seem to get super invested in the rest of the match.
Tomohiro Ishii def. Juice Robinson
Tomohiro Ishii got the win with his vertical brainbuster on Juice Robinson. They had a great back-and-forth brawl. It wasn’t as violent as other matches in the tournament but it was just about as intense.
This could easily end up being the best match of the day. Ishii just might be having the best tournament of anyone in the G1 Climax and that is saying a hell of a lot. Go out of your way to watch this one, it was excellent.
Hirooki Goto def. Toru Yano
This match went maybe two minutes before Hirooki Goto pinned Toru Yano with a rollup. There really was not much to this one because it was so short but it is good to have a different match like this every once and a while to switch things up.
EVIL, SANADA & BUSHI def. Hiroshi Tanahashi, KENTA & Karl Fredericks
BUSHI got the win with the MX on Karl Fredericks. This was a good match. Hiroshi Tanahashi was the focus of the first portion of the match while Los Ingobernables de Japon took advantage when Fredericks was in the ring.
EVIL will face Tanahashi on the next show while SANADA faces KENTA.
B Block competition starts next.
Minoru Suzuki, Zack Sabre Jr., Lance Archer & Yoshinobu Kanemaru def. Kazuchika Okada, Will Ospreay, YOSHI-HASHI & Shota Umino
Yoshinobu Kanemaru managed to get the win over Shota Umino by hitting him with the Deep Impact. There was a ton of brawling in this match, as to be expected by a New Japan eight-man tag.
Will Ospreay will face Zack Sabre Jr. on the next show while Kazuchika Okada will face Lance Archer.
Bad Luck Fale, Chase Owens & Yujiro Takahashi def. Kota Ibushi, Tomoaki Honma & Toa Henare
Yujiro Takahashi picked up the win over Tomoaki Honma. This was not a very good match. Ibushi was not used very much in this one, and Honma is not the wrestler he once was.
After the match Bullet Club continued to assault Kota Ibushi. They will compete in A Block action on the next event.
Ren Narita def. Yuya Uemura
Ren Narita picked up the win with his Belly to Belly suplex. Narita and Uemura’s rivalry continues with Narita getting the upper hand on this occasion.
Match was solid, the young lion system is known for producing good wrestlers and it shows in matches like this. It is not flashy but both guys show an experience level beyond their years.
