Shingo Takagi def. Tomohiro Ishii
We said this may end up being an instant classic. Safe to say this match accomplished that and then some. Shingo Takagi finally got the win over Tomohiro Ishii with the Last of the Dragon.
Takagi is one of the most crisp wrestlers I have ever seen. There is no wasted motion with him, and everything he does is at the highest level. Likewise, Ishii is in the very top tier of wrestlers in the entire world. It seems it is impossible for Ishii to have a bad match, as this tournament has illustrated.
At the end of Day 16, Jon Moxley, Hirooki Goto, Jay White and Tetsuya Naito are tied with 10 points. Moxley will face Juice Robinson, Goto will face Shingo Takagi, and White will face Naito in the main event.
We will be back on Saturday with the final day of A Block competition where Kota Ibushi will battle Kazuchika Okada in the main event. Until then, take care and we love you.
Jay White def. Juice Robinson
Jay White becomes the third man today to reach 10 points but submitting Juice Robinson with the Inverted Figure Four. White will face Tetsuya Naito on Saturday in what could end up being a winner take all match.
White and Robinson have always had great chemistry and this was another great match between them. It did not quite reach the heights of their match in San Francisco in 2018 because of the outside interference and the ref bump but it was still a great match.
The main event is up next. Tomohiro Ishii vs. Shingo Takagi. This could very easily be a classic match.
Hirooki Goto def. Jon Moxley
Jon Moxley drops his third match in a row as Hirooki Goto got the win with the GTR. Hirooki Goto now has 10 points and has a chance to make the G1 Climax Finals.
This was another great match. These two seemed to mesh really well but the match could have been longer if it were in a main event or semi-main event position. Now with three men at 10 points, there are a lot of different ways the B Block Final can go.
Tetsuya Naito def. Jeff Cobb
Tetsuya Naito gets the win by reversing the Tour of the Islands into the Destino and hitting a second Destino for the pin. Naito is now the second man in the B Block to hit 10 points and is still very much alive in this tournament.
These two had a very good match. Jeff Cobb has seemed to just be missing something in this tournament so far. He has only been able to have great matches with the top level performers but thankfully Naito is still a top level performer.
Jon Moxley will wrestle Hirooki Goto next. If Moxley loses, this tournament gets really interesting heading into the final weekend.
Toru Yano def. TAICHI
Yano rolled TAICHI and Yoshinobu Kanemaru up in the ring apron like a burrito and scored a countout win. Interesting finish to say the least.
TAICHI did a lot of stalling and thus this was one of the less entertaining Yano matches. I would not have thought that Yano would still be alive going into the final day of the B Block but here we are.
Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi & YOSHI-HASHI def. Kota Ibushi, Will Ospreay & Toa Henare
YOSHI-HASHI pinned Toa Henare with a Fisherman’s-buster. After the match Kazuchika Okada and Kota Ibushi had a tense staredown.
They will compete in the A Block Final on Saturday.
Minoru Suzuki, Zack Sabre Jr. & Lance Archer def. KENTA, Clark Connors & Karl Fredericks
Minoru Suzuki pinned Clark Connors with a Gotch Piledriver. KENTA will face Zack Sabre Jr. on Saturday.
Bad Luck Fale, Chase Owens & Yujiro Takahashi def. EVIL, SANADA & BUSHI
Chase Owens got the win for the Bullet Club by hitting a Package Piledriver on BUSHI. Bad Luck Fale faces SANADA on the final day of A Block matches.
Shota Umino & Ren Narita def. Yuya Uemura & Yota Tsuji
Shota Umino pinned Yota Tsuji after a Fisherman’s Suplex. Shota Umino is ridiculously talented and should be someone everyone needs to follow.
Welcome to WrestleTalk’s live coverage of Day 16 of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s G1 Climax. The B Block will get closer to being decided today despite the standings remaining very complicated.
