Kota Ibushi def. Kazuchika Okada
Kota Ibushi wins the A Block by hitting two Kamigoyes and pinning the IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada. What a match this was. This was only the third time Okada and Ibushi had competed one-on-one. These two are two of the very best in the world and this match could end up being a preview of the Wrestle Kingdom 14 main event.
Watch this match, you will not regret it.
Kota Ibushi finishes block competition with 14 points and a 7-2-0 record and the tie-breaker over Okada. Kazuchika Okada also finishes with 14 points and a 7-2-0 record but falls just short of reaching the G1 Climax Final.
That concludes our coverage of the G1 Climax’s A Block. We will be back tomorrow with the B Block final where we will find out who Kota Ibushi will face in the G1 Climax Final. Until then, take care and if it is your cup of tea, enjoy NXT Takeover: Toronto.
Will Ospreay def. Hiroshi Tanahashi
Will Ospreay represented the next generation as he defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi with a Hidden Blade and a Stormbreaker. This was a tournament highlight and definitely one to watch. There were a ton of incredible counters from both men as can be expected from two guys of this calibre.
Hiroshi Tanahashi now finishes the G1 Climax with a 4-5-0 record and eight points. Will Ospreay also finishes with eight points and a 4-5-0 record.
The main event is next. Kazuchika Okada faces Kota Ibushi. If Okada wins or there is a draw he makes it to the G1 Climax Final, if Ibushi wins he returns to the final for the second straight year.
Zack Sabre Jr. def. KENTA
Zack Sabre Jr. submitted KENTA with a submission hold focusing on KENTA’s surgically repair arm. This was a very good match as Sabre attacked KENTA’s arm with strikes and submissions. This one would be worth tracking down and watching after the fact, very good grappling.
Zack Sabre Jr. made up for a very poor start by finishing strong and finishing with eight points and a 4-5-0 record. KENTA was the opposite as he started with four straight wins before losing his last five matches. He ends the tournament with a 4-5-0 record and eight points.
Bad Luck Fale def. SANADA
Bad Luck Fale pinned SANADA with a cradle. There were entertaining aspects of this match for sure as SANADA put Chase Owens and Jado in the Paradise Lock at the same time. The match was not a technical masterpiece but it was not bad.
Bad Luck Fale finishes the A Block with eight points and a 4-5-0 record. SANADA finishes with an identical record of 4-5-0 and eight points as well.
Lance Archer def EVIL
Lance Archer was able to finish strong with a win over EVIL, pinning him with the EBD Claw. They had a very good albeit short match. Archer hit a moonsault off the apron, the referee got bumped and Archer was sent through a chair in the corner. Finally Archer was able to grab EVIL with the EBD Claw and pin him for the win.
Lance Archer finishes the block with six points and a 3-6-0 record. EVIL finishes with eight points and a 4-5-0 record.
Tetsuya Naito, Shingo Takagi & BUSHI def. Jay White, Chase Owens & Yujiro Takahashi
Shingo Takagi got the win for Los Ingobernables de Japon by pinning Yujiro Takahashi with Made in Japan. Jay White and Tetsuya Naito will battle in tomorrow’s main event in what will likely be a winner take all B Block Final.
EVIL vs. Lance Archer begins out A Block coverage.
Minoru Suzuki, TAICHI & Yoshinobu Kanemaru def. Hirooki Goto, Tomohiro Ishii & YOSHI-HASHI
Minoru Suzuki got the win over YOSHI-HASHI with a Gotch-Style Piledriver. Tomohiro Ishii and TAICHI had a staredown after the match as the two will compete in a rematch from their match at Dominion tomorrow night. Neither man can win the B Block.
Jeff Cobb & Toa Henare def. Toru Yano & Tomoaki Honma
Jeff Cobb got the pin on Tomoaki Honma after hitting the Tour of the Islands. Cobb will finish his tournament tomorrow against Toru Yano. Neither man can win the B Block.
Jon Moxley & Shota Umino def. Juice Robinson & Ren Narita
Shota Umino pinned Ren Narita with a bridging Fisherman’s Suplex. Jon Moxley has the chance to win the B Block tomorrow with a win over Juice Robinson, but at this point a win is far from guaranteed.
Welcome to WrestleTalk’s live coverage of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s G1 Climax A Block Final. Only two men remain alive as Kota Ibushi will face Kazuchika Okada in the main event, winner takes all.
