Kenny Omega (c) def. Kota Ibushi and Cody – IWGP Heavyweight Championship

Holy Moly.

Dave Meltzer, get your stars out, because this is worth a lot.

Going through every spot in this match would take about a week, so I’ll try and give the basic facts.

  • Kenny and Kota struggle to fight one another, constantly battling with their close friendship.
  • Cody put Kenny through a table.
  • Ibushi snapped, attacking Omega after he stops the referee from counting a pin which would have given Ibushi the win.
  • Kenny hits Ibushi with a V-Trigger and a One-Winged angel for the win.

Just incredible story-telling and incredible wrestling. What a way to end the show and now we have Omega vs Tanahashi to look forward to at Wrestle Kingdom in January.

Wonderful.

Bullet Club OG’s attack Tanahashi and Okada

After they were successful in their earlier tag match, the Bullet Club OG’s lead by Tama Tonga, attack Tanahashi after the match. Okada attempts to make the save, but is completely outnumbered and is laid out.

The tide really seems to be turning towards the Tongans, and if this is all leading towards a huge faction war, count me in…about 12 times.

Hiroshi Tanahashi def. Jay White

No wonder they love Hiroshi Tanahashi.

The Ace is beaten down and down and down by Jay White, who cheats endlessly to get the upper hands.

Chairs, low blows and Gedo are all used by White, who looked to be cruising to an easy victory.

But the legend held on, eventually rolling White up for a pinfall when the match looked certain to be heading for a White win.

KUSHIDA def. Marty Scurll – wins IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship

What a match that was, and there’s still two insane matches to come.

KUSHIDA is now a 6-time IWGP Juinor Heavyweight Champion. He joins Jushin Thunder Liger and Tiger Mask as the men with the most Junior Heavyweight titles in history.

The match was wrestled at a frantic pace, with neither man giving an inch to their opponent. Scurll attempted submission after submission, but KUSHIDA consistently managed to wriggle out or get a rope break.

Scurll stamped on KUSHIDA’s fingers, meaning he had to adapt his offence to not use his hands. The finish came after KUSHIDA hit Scurll with two package brain busters. Scurll’s effort was valiant, but he has fallen short of his goal.

He’s seriously making an impact in NJPW and continues to prove that he will be a huge star for years to come.

Next up: Jay White vs Hiroshi Tanahashi – IWGP Heavyweight title number one contender match.

Chris Jericho returns to attack EVIL

Poor EVIL. He just wanted to have a match with Zack Sabre Jr. but who should attack him our of nowhere but IWGP Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho.

Jericho, in a mask that 100% does not hide his identity, hits evil with the code breaker, before smacking him over the head with his title belt.

This attack comes after EVIL came to the aid of his fellow LIJ member Tetsuya Naito at Dominion in June when Jericho won the title off him.

Sabre Jr, seeing his opportunity, attacks EVIL after the match is deemed a no-contest. Naito runs down to attack ZSJ, and the two brawl with Natio coming out on top.

Could EVIL vs Jericho be the next IC title feud? Or is this just another random attack from Jericho?

Next up: Marty Scurll vs. KUSHIDA for the vacant IWGP JR. HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Tetsuya Naito, SANADA, BUSHI and Takagi Shingo def. Kazuchika Okada, Toru Yano, and Roppongi 3K

Following the shock reveal of Takagi Shingo as the newest member of LIJ, the match itself was a bit of a blitz.

Every man in the ring made the most of the short time they were given to shine, with Roppongi 3K flying around the ring like squirrels.

Shingo proved why he’s been chosen as the newest member of LIJ, using his strength and speed to dominate his opponents.

The finish came when Shingo hit Sho with the Last Falconry for the pinfall. It certainly looks as thought LIJ have added a real asset to their ranks.

Next up: EVIL vs. Zack Sabre Jr.

Shingo Takagi joins LIJ

Shingo Takagi/Takagi Shingo joins LIJ, days after leaving Dragon Gate. Takagi was pinned by Neville/Pac on his return to the ring last week, and many assumed he would be the new member of the stable.

Tomohiro Ishii, Hirooki Goto, and Will Ospreay def. Minoru Suzuki, Taichi, and Takashi Iizuka

A huge moment for Will Ospreay, who pins the NEVER Openweight Champion Taichi following an incredible Storm Runner spinning neckbreaker.

The match largely focused on the endlessly brilliant rivalry between Tomohiro Ishii and Minoru Suzuki, who traded the stiffest forearms you’re ever likely to see, until their teammates made their own impact.

Takashi Iizuka, as is his tendency, tried to eat everyone’s head, because why not, but the finish revolved around Will Ospreay’s fight to secure a NEVER Openweight title shot.

Hitting Taichi with a superkick and then the Storm Runner, Taichi was pinned and a delirious Ospreay challenged the champion to a match for his title. Two very different styles, but it should be a wonderful match.

Next up: Kazuchika Okada, Toru Yano, and Roppongi 3K vs. Tetsuya Naito, SANADA, BUSHI and a mystery partner

Guerrillas of Destiny, Bad Luck Fale, and Taiji Ishimori def. The Young Bucks, Hangman Page, and Chase Owens

This match was all built around the battle between current and former Bullet Club members.

The Guerrillas of Destiny shocked the world a few weeks back by turning on their Bullet Club brothers, saying that as the original members, they deserved more respect.

And they certainly proved a point.

The Bucks, Page and Owens struggled to make any kind of impact in the match. The colossal Bad Luck Fale stopped any momentum his opponents tried to build before they could make any real impact.

Matt Jackson’s injured back was the target of much of the offence, but it was Owens that fell to an elevated neck breaker by Tama Tonga. The Tongans have the upper hand.

Next up: Tomohiro Ishii, Hirooki Goto, and Will Ospreay vs. Minoru Suzuki, Taichi, and Takashi Iizuka

Togi Makabe and Tomoak Honma def. Juice Robinson and Toa Henare

Former IWGP United States Champion Juice Robinson and tag partner Toa Henare came up short against the veteran pairing of Togi Makabe and Tomoak Honma.

Honma, who has recently returned from injury, struggled to make an impact against his faster opponents, who managed to evade many of his moves.

But the tide turned when he tagged in Makabe, who used his strength to combat the speed and agility of Robinson and Henare.

The match finished with the veterans hitting a blitz of moves on Henare, with a flying knee drop from Makabe the final nail in the coffin.

Next up: The Young Bucks, Hangman Page, and Chase Owens vs. Guerrillas of Destiny, Bad Luck Fale, and Taiji Ishimori

El Desperado and Yoshinobu Kanemaru (c) def. Jushin “Thunder” Liger and Tiger Mask – Retain IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship

Desperado and Kanemaru jump Liger during his entrance, immediately giving the champs the upper hand.

They’re ready to stoop even lower, very nearly managing to remove both Liger and Tiger Mask’s mask, something this match revolves around heavily.

The veterans get the upper hand however, and it looks like they may well have the match won, but more heel tactics from the champions turned the tide.

A ref bump, a whiskey bottle to the head and a low blow prove too much for Liger and Tiger Mask, with the latter being pinned to hand the victory to Desperado and Kanemaru.

Next up: Togi Makabe and Tomoak Honma vs. Juice Robinson and Toa Henare
