Hello and welcome to our live coverage for the final episode of WWE NXT on the USA Network before this Sunday’s TakeOver: WarGames event.
Four matches have been confirmed for TakeOver so far, and here’s what’s coming up tonight:
- Raquel Gonzalez vs. Shotzi Blackheart – Ladder match for WarGames advantage
- Curt Stallion was attacked by Legado del Fantasma in the parking lot ahead of the show
- Pat McAfee, Pete Dunne, Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan to appear
- Thatch-As-Thatch-Can with Timothy Thatcher
Follow along with the live coverage below for updates, results and analysis throughout tonight’s show!
Shotzi Gets The Advantage
As you’d have predicted, this was very much about Gonzalez’s power against Blackheart’s evasion.
The teammates of both were both up on perches in the CWC, until Indi Hartwell gave the heels a ladder so they could get down and interfere.
However, Ripley and Moon did the same, and humongous brawl broke out, with security and Io Shirai joining in too, which pretty much confirms that she’ll be on Blackheart’s team.
The one person who managed to avoid the brawl? Shotzi Blackheart, who capitalised by taking down the briefcase and getting the advantage for her team!
That show was the epitome of fine. There wasn’t anything particularly bad, but none if it really stood out either. So a typical NXT really.
Sheer GENIUS. #WWENXT #WeAreNXT #WarGames @shirai_io pic.twitter.com/9SDisQ89yE

Women's WarGames Advantage Ladder Match
It’s main event time, and we’ve got Raquel Gonzalez vs Shotzi Blackheart in a ladder match.
The winner will get the advantage for their team in WarGames – traditionally the heel wins but maybe they’ll change it up because the heels won for the men’s one.
Hopefully Blackheart doesn’t die.
Tonight was about distraction.
This Sunday at #NXTTakeOver: WarGames, it will be about RESPECT.

Thatcher Gets The Better Of Ciampa
We were meant to be getting Thatch-As-Thatch-Can, but just as Thatcher was introducing his student for the day, Tommaso Ciampa showed up.
Obviously, this resulted in a brawl, but Thatcher’s student tried to help Thatcher so it was Thatcher who got the better of the exchange and left Ciampa laid out.
It’s likely that we’ll be getting a match between the two at TakeOver, which is noice.
And a wild @NXTCiampa appears!#WWENXT pic.twitter.com/OYlRtAVLqn

Stupid Ever-Rise
To the surprise of absolutely zero human beings, that match was rather mint.
And then Ever-Rise ruined it.
It ended with no winner because the Canadians showed back up and attacked members of each team.
It looks like a little three-way thing being set up which is cool. GYV has really bolstered the NXT tag division.

Grizzled Young Veterans vs Imperium
Ahead of the GYV match, we got a weird video package with Boa, Xia Li and that old Asian bloke.
The old bloke and a mystery woman are basically making Boa and Li perform some kind of ritual and then beat them down.
The match was set to be Ever-Rise vs GYV, but Imperium ambushed Ever-Rise and instead we’re getting the two European teams against each other.
Well this should be pretty damn good!
#GrizzledYoungVeterans aren't the only European tag team to return to #WWENXT! #IMPERIUM is BACK to put @ZackGibson01 & @JamesDrake_GYT in their place! #NXTUK @Marcel_B_WWE @FabianAichner pic.twitter.com/7MIQ4bwCP2

Pat McAfee Talks WarGames
Pat McAfee is still the best heel promo in wrestling, so nothing has changed there.
And, in other things that haven’t changed, Danny Burch is great in this role but the other two don’t fit at all.
McAfee didn’t say anything particularly revolutionary but his delivery as always was perfect, and after he’d finished Pete Dunne broke his silence and said that they’re going to end the Undisputed ERA on Sunday.
Up next, the Grizzled Young Veterans are in action. As someone who is very much from the same area as Gibson and Drake, it’s very exciting to see them back.
Just in case you forget who they are…

Jake Atlas Wins Match Dedicated To Pat Patterson
Up next we got Jake Atlas vs Tony Nese, and commentary put over that Atlas was dedicating this match to Patterson.
During the match they went into a split screen showing McAfee’s group arriving at the venue. They didn’t attack anyone or come and crash the match this time, which was nice of them.
It’s always nice to see Nese because he’s obviously talented but he’s been restricted to mainly 205 Live for so long.
After a pretty good match Atlas won with the cartwheel DDT which is a great finish.
He got a ringside interview with McKenzie Mitchell afterwards, and he did a decent fired-up promo and has hit sights set on the Cruiserweight Title despite losing a title match recently.
McAfee and his pals are up next!

Grimes Picks Up A Win, Lumis Creeps Again
Grimes was up against August Grey, so two pretty retro looking guys, and Grimes had brought the strap for Sunday with him despite it being a regular match.
They’re two good workers too, so unsurprisingly this was a solid little match with Grimes picking up the win with a Cave-In.
Grimes and Lumis have done so much silly stuff recently and I stand by what I said in that it would be awful if it was anyone but Grimes, but he makes it so entertaining.
Grimes attacks Grey after the match, whipping him with the strap. Grey rolled out the ring and Grimes turned around to pull him back in with the strap, but Dexter Lumis was actually on the other end of the strap, and gave him a receipt.

Undisputed ERA Video Package
As always, the video package was great. It was a mix of footage of the UE’s tumultuous past few months and them talking about their issues with McAfee’s team.
They are such a great faction. They look the part, and they look like they’d actually be pals outside of the ring (because they are), which is so important and is what’s missing from so many groups in wrestling.
McAfee and co. will be appearing later tonight to address the match, so that should be good because he always is.
Cameron Grimes is in action next. He faces Dexter Lumis in a strap match at TakeOver.

Ruff & Priest Coexist
The Ghostface character who has had Gargano’s back lately was in the crowd for this one. I’m still assuming it’s gonna be revealed as Austin Theory at some point. Maybe TakeOver as I’m not sure how long they can keep it going without people losing interest.
Escobar and Mendoza worked over Priest for a while who then had to give Ruff the hot tag, which is a bit weird. Should have been the other way around really.
Priest did end up back in and he was about to give Mendoxa the Reckoning and get the win, but Ruff tagged himself in so he could hit a frog splash to get the pin for himself.
After the match when Ruff and Priest were in the ring, two ghostfaces came behind Gargano, so it looks like we have another mystery to solve.
Up next we’re gonna be getting an Undisputed ERA video package ahead of the WarGames match this Sunday.

Priest Has Ruff's Back
Kicking off the in-ring action tonight we’ve got Damian Priest teaming with the North American Champion Leon Ruff.
The storyline is that Ruff was supposed to be teaming with Curt Stallion, but he was attacked by Legado del Fantasma before the show.
That’s because Stallion is #1 contender to Santos Escobar’s Cruiserweight Title.
Ruff and Priest – who is filling in because he wants to make sure Ruff makes it to TakeOver – are against Escobar and Raul Mendoza.
Priest had attacked Joaquin Wilde earlier too to rule him out.
Gargano’s on commentary, and obviously Ruff defends the North American Title against Priest and Johnny Gargano at TakeOver, and Gargano is on commentary for this.
So some cool intertwining of title pictures and what should be a fun match.

Tribute To Pat Patterson
The show opened with all NXT personnel out on the stage in tribute of Pat Patterson, who sadly passed away today aged 71.
There was then a brilliant video package in tribute of him too including him singing a karaoke rendition of My Way.
We continue to extend our thoughts and condolences to his family, friends and everyone affected by his passing.
Thank you for everything, Pat.#RIPPatPatterson pic.twitter.com/XTmTDpam8O
