WWE Raw Live Results – January 21, 2019

04:02am

Sasha and Bayley worked like a real team here… almost as if they’re going to win the Tag Titles at the Chamber.

They worked over Natalya for a short while before Sasha went for one too many cheap shots and got distracted, allowing for Nattie to make the tag for Ronda to come in.

Sasha manages to counter the Samoan Drop and locks in a Bank Statement. Nattie breaks it up though and after a few minutes of Ronda dancing around like a child, Natalya is back in and looks to have Banks beaten with the Sharpshooter.

This time it’s Bayley who breaks it up, and soon enough Nattie is tapping to the Bank Statement.

That’s Rousey’s first loss in WWE. Not great, pals.

A mixed show there. I think the good outweighed the bad but it wasn’t as good as last week. Tomorrow’s SmackDown should be boss though, so make sure you come back to WrestleTalk.com for that!

03:46am

Before the main event tag match of Ronda & Nattie vs. Sasha & Bayley, Sasha gets her sass on. Try saying that five times really quickly. I mean, people will probably think you’re a weirdo, but you’re watching Raw, so they already think that.

Anyway, Natalya’s trying to keep Ronda calm here, because she’s dead boring. Banks give Rousey a cheap shot off the apron to kick the match off and we are now underway!

03:37am

I tried to ignore Michael Cole here just chatting absolute moronic piles of garbage about how the Revival shouldn’t have gotten a rematch because rematch clauses have been abolished.

Rematch clauses were for former champions, pal.

Anyway, the whole Revival get screwed thing is still being played here with Hawkins as the ref. Wilder tried to get a pin with his feet on the ropes but Hawkins noticed it.

Shortly after, Dawson rolled Gable up, but he had the tights so Hawkins stopped the tights once more.

And then Gable & Roode won with a roll-up. The Revival are in the ring moaning at Hawkins, and then ambush him. BUT, there is a savior! Hawkins’ former tag partner Zack Ryder makes the save.

03:20am

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS OTIS IS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Heavy Machinery – my heroes in life – taking on the Ascension. Otis and Viktor in the same match. This feels like a dream.

Easy win for Heavy Machinery after a Caterpillar from Otis followed by the Compactor. I love them with all my heart.

Michael Cole there miscalled another move the Caterpillar, and then when Otis did hit the Caterpillar said “Get it right Corey, this is the Caterpillar”. I hate him so much. But on a brighter note, Heavy Machinery won!

Up next, we’ve got Gable & Roode vs. The Revival for the Tag Titles, with Curt Hawkins as the special ref. Why? Because of course. Duh.

03:10am

Alexa Bliss just reads out the names of everyone in the women’s Rumble and then brings out Nia.

Ember then randomly comes out and takes Nia’s mic, saying that she’s tired of sitting in the locker room. And now Alicia Fox is here. You couldn’t make this up. Mickie James is here now too.

No sign of Otis. He better hurry up. Oh no, it’s actually the Riott Squad. And… erm… Nikki Cross.

Alexa is doing a Steph and telling them to behave, but unlike Steph, she’s small, so has to stand on a chair LOL.

They’re all stood in a line calmly waiting… oh and finally they decide to scrap. Oh I’ve just noticed Dana Brooke too. Joy. The brawl is spilling into the backstage area and now Alexa is stood on the stage alone.

Alexa announces that she will indeed be competing in the Rumble despite her injury and… oh! Lacey Evans is here. Wearing a hat, of course. She says she will be in the Rumble. Yay. What a catastrophic segment.

02:55am

That wasn’t a bad match, it’s just that we saw it a couple of weeks ago and Corbin won clean so I didn’t care.

There was a decent nearfall off a Cross Rhodes from Elias, and then Corbin gets yet another clean win over Elias with the End of Days.

Up next, we’ve got A Moment of Bliss: Royal Rumble edition. I very much hope to see Otis and if I don’t I will be bitterly disappointed.

02:49am

Elias plays a tune that I should probably know but don’t, before going on to do his usual Walk With Elias shtick.

OH OF COURSE IT’S BARON CORBIN WHAT DID I EXPECT. The former GM says he’s going to put Elias in his place, before Elias gets a bloke called Lance to cut Corbin’s mic. Big fan of how Corbin thought shouting louder into the mic would make it come back on.

There was a bit of hope there. Elias said seeing him vs. Corbin again would be boring and pointless. He was right. But of course it’s still happening anyway. Because this is WWE, and we’re in the “New Era”!

02:40am

We get a backstage promo from Dean Ambrose saying he will bring justice in the Royal Rumble match by eliminating Seth Rollins and Bobby Lashley on his way to victory.

And then we cut to the ring and are greeted by quite the sight… Lucha House Party vs. Jinder & the Singhs. This is the action we look forward to on Monday nights.

The Luchas pick up a win out of nowhere and then we go to an EC3 vignette. The same one that’s been played for weeks on end.

And then he appears backstage with Dana Brooke who says he looks nice. He stands there in silence. Elias walks past. Elias up next – genuinely my favorite part of Raw each week. BUT, if he is cut off by Baron Corbin I might eat my own eyeballs.

02:29am

So far tonight, there have been three matches, and we haven’t seen the start of any of them because they all started during commercials.

Drew went into the first commercial on top despite some acrobatics from Rollins, but the ‘Architect’ fared better after we came back from the break with a float-over falcon arrow.

Drew went for a Claymore off a counter, but Seth nails a Superkick first for a nearfall, leading to “This is Awesome” chants from the Oklahoma City crowd.

There followers another succession of nearfalls as Drew hits an avalanche White Noise quickly followed by a gut-wrench Powerbomb, both leading to Seth kicking out at two.

And then the ‘Kingslayer’ manages to escape with a roll-up win. Absolutely sound with that finish. Usually not a fan of roll-ups but I think that was the way to go here.

Oh hold up a sec, we’ve got a backstage segment with the Revival and Vince backstage. They ask for a special referee to make sure their next match against Gable & Roode ends fairly. And then Curt Hawkins walks in and it’s going to be in. Well that was far less interesting than I was hoping.

02:10am

Rollins cuts a passionate promo about how he’s not a stereotypical “WWE Superstar”, and despite his working class upbringing, he has the heart to win the Rumble.

He is soon cut off by Drew McIntyre, who says he’s going to kick Seth’s head off. Lovely. Drew then says that Rollins’ style means there’s 0% chance of him winning the Rumble.

The Scot says he hopes he and Rollins are the final two so Rollins has to be ringside for the announcement of Drew winning, and then we go to commercials AGAIN.

01:53am

As we come back from commercial, Lashley vs. Apollo is underway.

That was over fairly quick. After Apollo failed to Gorilla Press Lashley twice, Rush got in the ring, provided the distraction, and Lashley won with a Spear.

Before Bob even has time to say “everyone look at my gorgeous bum now please”, Seth Rollins makes his entrance for his bout against McIntyre.

Glances were well and truly exchanged.

01:50am

Yep, that was exactly how you’d imagine it. Lashley was up on a podium, the spotlight went on him, and he posed.

And then Apollo Crews showed up. How joyful. And then Lio says that if Apollo can beat Lashley in a pose-off, he can get a title opportunity.

Imagine me sighing heavily. Because that’s exactly what I’m doing.

They are big lads, I will give them that. After a few minutes, Lashley ambushes Apollo, but gets chucked out the ring, with Rush following closely.

And then we go to commercial. Marvelous.

01:37am

Lesnar stayed at ringside for this one, and rather annoyingly the cameras seemed to care more about him than the match.

Oh, that’s why. Braun lobbed Finn out the ring, Lesnar caught him, and then gave him a German. For some reason the ref didn’t call for a DQ.

Brock gets up on the apron to confront Braun, but Finn recovers from behind and pulls Lesnar down, before diving on him from the ring and giving him a Shotgun Dropkick onto the barricade.

Braun almost capitalized from Finn being distracted, but the Irishman managed to recover with a Slingblade and a Coup de Grace. However, before Bálor could get the pin, Lesnar gives him an F-5, at which point the ref finally calls for the bell.

Announced for later is Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre, for the 583rd time. Up next, it’s Lashley’s IC Title celebration. A few minutes of Lio Rush shouting. Yay.

01:26am

Heyman’s already making excuses for Lensar… Lesnar trained for Strowman to be his opponent, and the difference in style between Strowman and Bálor puts Brock at a significant disadvantage.

The Advocate goes on to say though, that despite this, Lesnar will make Bálor a sacrifice for the sin of leading his fans into believing that he can beat Brock.

After Heyman says that the tables will turn and Bálor will end the Royal Rumble believing in Lesnar more so than himself, he is cut off by Vince McMahon!

Vince says that there’s no chance (GET IT?!) of Bálor beating Brock. He compares the bout to that of David vs. Goliath, only this time Goliath will obviously win.

Hold on just a minute. Braun Strowman’s here! Vince pulled Braun from taking on Lesnar for the title because he smashed his limo. Braun’s reaction was… well… to smash the limo some more.

Braun says that if Brock beats Bálor on Sunday, he’ll be waiting to finally beat Lesnar at the third time of asking.

Another man has joined the ring now, and it’s Lesnar’s challenger, Finn Bálor! Bálor says that despite him being the challenger, he’s still being overlooked as Braun opens Raw for what seems like the 64th time in a row. They weren’t his exact words but you get the picture.

Finn then reminds Vince that David actually beat Goliath, and then Vince makes Finn vs. Braun as tonight’s opening match. Oh.

01:06am

Raw kicks off with a tribute to Martin Luther King on MLK Day, followed up by the entrance of the Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar!

Lesnar defends his title against Finn Bálor at the Royal Rumble – this could get interesting.

Good evening good people and welcome in to WrestleTalk.com’s live coverage of the January 21, 2019 edition of Raw. Bookmark this page and hit the refresh button for live and constant updates throughout the show!

Announced for tonight, we’ve got a women’s tag match with Royal Rumble implications, as Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey teams with her bezzie mate Natalya to take on Sasha Banks and her bezzie mate Bayley.

Ronda defends her title against Sasha at the Rumble this Sunday, so expect some sort of shenanigans to lead us into the event.

Not much more has actually been properly announced. Finn Bálor takes on Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title on Sunday after Vince pulled Strowman from the match for smashing his limo, so we might get something to build to that. If Brock shows up that is.

Other big news coming out of last week was Bobby Lashley’s IC Title win. Prepare for Lio Rush to be annoying for a few minutes.

We’ll also probably see the new NXT call-ups pop up here and there. Other than Otis, they’ve all been made to look like massive geeks so far so hopefully that changes.

What are you looking forward to on Raw tonight? Let us know in the comments, on Twitter, or on Discord.
