WWE Raw Live Results – January 28, 2019

04:02am

Ring announcer Mike Rome is about to reintroduce Seth Rollins to announce who he picks for ‘Mania, but it’s Universal Champion Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman who come out first.

Heyman says that Bryan is the only option for Rollins and puts Lesnar over until the ‘Architect’ himself comes out and stares Brock down before striking him and the pair get into a brawl.

Lesnar manages to catch Seth and nail him with an F5… and then another one… and then another one… and then another one.. and then another one… and then another one.

Raw goes off air with Rollins down having eaten six F5s and, although no formal announcement was made, it certainly seems like Rollins vs. Lesnar is the direction they’re going.

That was actually a pretty good Raw, but I’m really, really, really tired. Come back tomorrow for SmackDown Live coverage!

03:48am

Up next, we’ve got Braun Strowman vs. Drew McIntyre. Braun has only won one match since Survivor Series, which came at TLC when he didn’t actually do anything, whereas Drew’s only win since TLC was in a steel cage match on Raw over Ziggler on New Year’s Eve.

Another interesting one… Braun hasn’t won a match on Raw since he Drew and Dolph beat the Shield on October 15.

The bout spills to the outside early with Drew taking the upper hand by targeting Braun’s leg and locking him in a sleeper. Braun manages to break out though and uses his overwhelming power to fight back.

Strowman goes for the Powerslam on the outsude but Drew escapes it and drives Braun into the cornerpost. Strowman picks up the stairs but oh boy Baron Corbin is here! Hooray. 🙁

Braun punches a chair out of Corbin’s hand and proceeds to beatdown on the former acting GM until Drew flattens the ‘Monster Among Men’ with a Claymore.

McIntyre and Corbin then it a double chokeslam on Braun and we are literally back to where we were what… three months ago?

On a lighter note, Seth Rollins is going to announce which champion he chooses to face at ‘Mania next!

03:31am

Ronda Rousey (c) def. Bayley – Raw Women’s Championship

Ronda suffered a leg injury early in this one after her knee gave way, providing a bullseye for Bayley to focus on with a dragon screw in the ropes before we go to commercials.

When we come back from commercials, Ronda is still down favoring her leg, and every move she hits seems come with extra pain, with her leg giving out on an armdrag and also extra damage to the arm that was inflicted by Banks last night.

Bayley manages to catch a Rousey kick into a kneebar, but the champ manages to roll out of it as the pair spill to the outside, and we go to yet even MORE commercials…

Bayley connects with the elbow drop when we come back from commercials, but instead of going for a pin, locks in the Bank Statement paying homage to her friend Sasha Banks who Rousey beat last night.

The pair both climb to the top turnbuckle, but Ronda manages to roll down with Bayley’s arm and lock in the armbar making Bayley tap out almost immediately.

Ronda and Bayley share a moment of respect in the ring when women’s Royal Rumble winner Becky Lynch comes out and confronts Ronda. She says that she’s come to prove that Ronda isn’t the “baddest woman on the planet” and chooses Ronda to face at ‘Mania!

Rousey cuts a promo on Becky about how she’s been a household name for over a decade but Becky’s only been ‘The Man’ for a couple of months.

But… who cares?

Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Title is confirmed for WrestleMania 35!

03:06am

Ronda Rousey comes to the ring to a chorus of boos from the crowd who clearly only want Becky.

Rousey thanks Sasha for the match last night, before pointing at the WrestleMania sign and sending a message to Becky.

And the Bayley comes out, and answers Rousey’s open challenge for a Raw Women’s Title match.

And that match is up next!

02:53am

The Riott Squad def. Natalya & Dana Brooke

We get an intriguing backstage segment with Mojo Rawley. He’s sat at a table basically shouting into a mirror that it’s his own fault everyone thinks he’s a geek, and it’s time to show everyone who he really is.

I like this – I think Mojo’s excellent so a new character of sorts or whatever this turns out to be, providing it gets him on TV, is a good thing.

Meanwhile, there’s a match going on… oh it’s finished.

Morgan and Logan of the Riott Squad pick up a roll-up win over Natalya and Dana Brooke in a Women’s Tag Title Chamber qualifier.

02:48am

It’s my second favorite time of Raw behind Otis O’Clock – time to walk with Elias.

Elias says that he’s recently been giving the crowd a chance, but they need to be better. He says it’s too late, which leads the crowd into a “we’re not worthy” chant. Elias says he will no longer write songs for the fans – he’s turned heel again.

Elias is about to start singing when Jeff Jarrett cuts him off like he did last night… only this time he has the Roadie with him, who tells Elias to “play with yourself on your own time”. Then they sing ‘With My Baby Tonight’ until Elias attacks them both and smashes his guitar on JJ.

Up the Elias.

02:30am

The Revival def. Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder

Well at least the Revival didn’t lose.

The Revival taking on Hawkins and Ryder and Ryder saved Hawkins from a Revival beatdown last week.

After an early burst from the former Major Bros., Dash and Dawson work over Ryder. The ‘Long Island Iced-Z’ hits a neckbreaker on Dash to allow him the opportunity to tag in Hawkins.

Hawkins goes for a roll-up on Dawson, but Dash makes the tag and the Revival land the Shatter Machine for the win.

We cut backstage for an interview with WWE Champion Daniel Bryan who has Rowan with him. Bryan says that he’ll end Seth Rollins’ WrestleMania dream should he choose to face him via his Rumble win.

02:20am

Finn Bálor comes out selling the damage that Lesnar did to him last night. He puts Lesnar over befor being cut off by Intercontinental Champion Bobby Lashley and Lio Rush.

Rush says it’s a disgrace that a “twerp” like Finn got a Universal Title match, and says that he wouldn’t stand a chance at beating Lashley, because Lashley is bigger, faster and stronger than Brock will ever be.

Bálor retorts by mocking Lashley’s short stint in the Rumble match, which prompts the ‘All Mighty’ to launch an assault on a defenseless Irishman. Straight back down to the midcard Finn goes. Did anyone expect any different?

02:08am

Baron Corbin def. Kurt Angle

Corbin cuts a promo on Angle before the match starts telling him that he’s going to humiliate the Olympic gold medalist, but Angle strikes him to get the bout underway.

After an early German from Angle, a clothesline from Corbin puts him in control. After Angle escapes a Baron submission, he delivers a few more Germans and follows it up with an Angle Slam with a nearfall.

Kurt locks in the Ankle Lock but Corbin rolls out, and lands a Deep Six for the win. Love that Corbin has both the End of Days and the Deep Six as finishers. Speaking of the End of Days, Corbin gives Angle one of those too for good measure.

We see Finn Bálor backstage after his loss to Brock Lesnar last night, and he walks past the greatest human alive Otis Dozovic. Bálor in the building, next.

01:53am

Nia Jax & Tamina def. Alexa Bliss & Mickie James – WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Elimination Chamber Qualifier

Alexa and Tamina start in the ring, and after a bit off a burst from Bliss, Tamina tags Nia in who takes out both Alexa and Mickie and we go to commercials.

When we get back to the match, Tamina is on top of Bliss. She tags Nia in who continues working over Bliss who is competing in her first TV match since September.

When Tamina’s back in, Bliss manages to squirm her way to Mickie for the hot tag. James takes Tamina out with a seated senton, a hurricanrana and a neckbreaker for a nearfall.

James connects with the Mick Kick but Nia tags in. She has Mickie set up for a Samoan Drop and notices Bliss on the top rope. Jax goes and picks up Bliss too and lands a double Samoan Drop for the win.

Nia and Tamina qualify for the Women’s Tag Titles elimination Chamber. Oh yay.

01:38am

When we come back from commericals, Ambrose is sat in the ring about to get something off his chest, but Nia Jax and Tamina come out, and Nia strikes Dean out of the ring.

Dean walks back up the ramp as Nia and Tamina’s opponents Alexa Bliss and Mickie James come out.

Nia and Tamina vs. Alexa and Mickie in a Women’s Tag Titles Elimination Chamber qualifier.

01:34am

Seth Rollins def. Dean Ambrose

The match starts fast with Rollins storming out the blocks hot against the man that stabbed him in the back and took the Intercontinental Title from him last month.

The match spills to the outside, but upon returning to the ring, Ambrose manages to counter a Rollins springboard attack to turn the tables until a Seth superkick takes the ‘Lunatic’ down. Rollins goes for a Curb Stomp early on but Dean rolls out the ring, and then chucks Seth into the cornerposts multiple times.

Ambrose locks Seth in an STF, but the latter manages to fight out, only for Dean to take Rollins back down almost immediately. Rollins manages to dodge an Ambrose running attack and goes for a dive but Dean blocks it with a punch before driving Seth down for a nearfall.

Aaaannnnddd… we go to commercials.

Back from the break, both men are on the top turnbuckle. Seth shoves Dean down before giving him a diving crossbody off the top.

A Rollins clothesline sends Dean outside the ring before Seth dives out with a couple of suicide dives. Back in the ring, Seth goes for the Falcon Arrow, Dean blocks it, but falls back out the ring and Rollins lands a third suicide dive.

Rollins rolls Dean back into the ring and goes for a frog splash, but Dean rolls out the way, and tries a roll-up pinfall for a two-count.

Ambrose goes for the Dirty Deeds, but Seth counters it into a King’s Landing knee, followed up by a Buckle Bomb, a Superkick, and a Curb Stomp to earn a decisive victory over Ambrose.

01:17am

Raw opens with the 2019 men’s Royal Rumble match winner Seth Rollins making his way to the ring.

The crowd serenades Seth with a “you deserve it” chant, before Rollins points at the sign, as is the thing to do at this time of year. I’m sure it gets bigger every year…

Rollins puts forward the debate of whether he should challenge WWE Champion Daniel Bryan or Universal Champion Brock Lesnar at ‘Mania.

The ‘Kingslayer’ declares that he’s gonna need a little while to think about the decision, but is cut off by the entrance of Triple H, prompting “NXT” chants.

Rollins is clearly emotional, with the ‘Game’ telling him he’s proud of what he’s achieved in winning the Rumble match. Hunter tells Seth he needs to make the decision as to who he’s going to challenge at ‘Mania by the end of the night. The crowd begin chanting “slay the Beast”, but Dean Ambrose makes his entrance and joins Seth and HHH in the ring.

Dean says the relationship between Rollins and HHH makes him sick, because Trips never actually believed in Rollins, but Dean did. HHH then reminds Ambrose about the fact he stabbed Seth in the back… the leukemia line again.

Ambrose asks Triple H to make a match between he and Rollins right now. Trips simply walks out the ring, to which Dean asks “do you have to ask permission from your father-in-law first?” Savage. The crowd begin chanting “yes he does”. This prompts Trips to call out a ref, and it looks like the match is gonna begin after the break.

Well I for one thoroughly enjoyed the Royal Rumble last night. Except from the fact that it was seven hours long and I stayed up until 5am watching it. I am currently suffering the consequences of my life decisions. Luckily, I have youth, energy drinks, and stupidity on my side, so I should be fine.

Seth Rollins of Raw won the men’s Royal Rumble last night, meaning he gets to pick either the Universal Champion or WWE Champion to face at WrestleMania. Obviously, he might want a bit of time to think about it, but maybe we’ll get some hints into whatever direction he’s heading in tonight.

In other Raw results from the Rumble, Chad Gable and Bobby Roode beat Rezar and Scott Dawson on the pre-show (yep, you read that right), Brock Lesnar retained his Universal Title over Finn Bálor, and Ronda Rousey retained her Raw Women’s Title over Sasha Banks.

Rousey tried to show Banks some respect after the bout was over, but Sasha simply walked away holding up the Four Horsewomen sign. Seeds well and truly planted. Is there a chance of women’s Rumble winner Becky Lynch showing up to Raw tonight announcing that she wants to face Rousey at ‘Mania?

We’re kicking off the qualifying matches for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles Elimination Chamber match tonight, but the teams involved are yet to be announced. A few potential ones I can think of off the top of my very headachey head are the Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection, the Riott Squad, and Mickie James & Alicia Fox. We’ll probably end up with a completely random fusion of Ember Moon and Dana Brooke or something, too.

Also announced for tonight are Drew McIntyre vs. Braun Strowman, and Baron Corbin vs. Kurt Angle.
