WWE SmackDown Live Results – April 15, 2022 WWE

Tonight, WrestleTalk will be providing live coverage of WWE SmackDown. We are heading towards Backlash. Here is the advertised card:

  • Jinder Mahal to challenge WWE Intercontinental Champion Ricochet
  • Drew McIntyre takes on Sami Zayn in a SmackDown rematch
  • RKBro comes calling for The Bloodline

Riddle and Uso

Riddle and Uso are wrestling after their encounter earlier in the night. This one is a good match early on. Both of these guys can really go. I’m guessing the match ends in some sort of shenanigans without a real finish.

Riddle hits a GTS and a back suplex for a near fall. That was really close and almost got me. Riddle goes for the Floating Bro and Uso gets the knees up. He goes for it again and Jey pulls him off the rope. You think that’s going to be it, but it’s not.

Jimmy goes for a big lifting Samoan Drop, but Riddle counters into an RKO. WOW. That was Orton worthy. That was really nice. A good match with an exciting finish. Nicely done.

Good start. Good finish. Ricochet gets a win. Walter gets some highlights. Overall, not the worst two hours I’ve ever spent. Enjoy your weekend. Be safe.

The Story of Lacey Evans

Before we hear from Lacey Evans again, Butch attacks New Day. He went flying over a table and attacked Xavier Woods. This led to a brawl between New Day and Sheamus, Holland, and Butch.

We then get the Lacey Evans story part 2. She tells about how her father found her. He beat and abused her and her family. He was wanted and forced her to hide. She went to child services. They are certainly going for the sympathy angle here.

We cut to Nattie and Shayna making fun of Evans. Apparently, some new girl has turned their locker room into her personal closet. They say no one has any respect for them. The new girl is Raquel Rodriguez. She introduces herself and gets in their face. They walk off.

Up next, it is Riddle and Jimmy Uso.

Ricochet vs. Mahal

Ricochet defends his title against Jinder Mahal. I’m really happy Ricochet is getting a push. He wins fairly easily in this one. He hits the Recoil. He sets up for the 450 splash, but Shanky pulls Jinder out of the ring.

Ricochet just adjusts and dives on both men on the outside. He gets Mahal back in the ring and hits a beautiful 450 Splash. He then gets the victory. I’d like for him to have some sort of actual program, but we’re not that lucky just yet.

Backstage, Sheamus is being interviewed about Butch acting like a little child last week. During the interview, Sheamus and Holland start chanting Who for their feud with the New Day. Butch finally speaks and answers The New Day. He shoves Sheamus who continues rambling. Holland points out that Butch has left and they’ve lost him. This overly aggressive, child-like character is so beneath Pete Dunne. He’s short. So, Vince is definitely not just going to let him be a normal character who kicks butt. He has to be some kind of joke.

Drew McIntyre vs. Sami Zayn

Prior to Drew McIntyre and Sami Zayn having a pointless rematch, we get Gunther and Ludwig. Ludwig tells us the mat is sacred. He also says Gunther is dominating. Unbelievably, they actually show NXT and NXT UK highlights. They never, ever do that. Someone must really love Gunther and want to get behind him.

Sami is out second and he talks about how he didn’t run away from Drew. He says he’s going to win tonight. Drew McIntyre has heard enough. He meets him outside and drives him between he barricade and apron a few times. Sami hides behind Pat McAfee.

Yep, pointless. About 3 minutes into the match, McIntyre went for the Claymore. Sami rolled out of the ring and ran out through the crowd. Drew chased him after he was counted out.

Backstage, Ricochet gets an interview. Apparently, no one wrote this one for him because he didn’t sound like a complete dork. He did make one really corny claim. He said people don’t call him flawless because he’s perfect. They call him that because he makes it look perfect. He’s facing Jinder Mahal next.

Drew interviews Charlotte Flair

Drew Gulak introduces Charlotte Flair. He did an incredible job. He then asks why she turned down the challenge last week. He says it appeared to him that Charlotte tapped. She says she was just fixing her bra. He said if the ref had seen it, Rousey would be the champ. She says she didn’t tap.

Charlotte wants to know if Drew stopped wrestling so he could stand next to her and ask dumb questions. Flair said he’s just a quitter. She says she’s not a quitter. She says winning is in her DNA. She calls herself a submission master. She says she has been making people submit for over a decade. She tells Gulak to get out of the ring. He reluctantly walks away.

She clips his knee from behind. She puts him in The Figure 8. He taps. She won’t let go. She makes him say I quit. Poor Gulak. Imagine being as talented as he is and having to sell Charlotte and Rousey. Poor guy only gets a chance to talk to be a jobber or the 24/7 title chase.

Meanwhile, Flair doesn’t really gain anything from it. I guess she can say she tapped out Gulak.

Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss

Happy Corbin is upset with Moss. He calls Moss a hanger on. He says he’s not on his level. He says he wants to go out on his own. He says Moss will fall flat on his face.

We then turn to Drew Gulak backstage. He’s apparently trying out for the announce team. Moss is backstage and he explains that the reason his jokes were so bad is because Corbin likes puns and is very simple. He then goes on to tell a really bad joke about how the Letharios can kiss his butt. He then poses in the kiss cam with his butt sticking out.

Moss is wrestling Humberto next. This match was a squash. Moss looked dominant. Moss is getting a push. Unfortunately, he did not get a repackage of any kid. He hits the punchline for the win.

After the match, Angel Garza yells at Humberto because he lost to a nobody. Backstage, Charlotte wants to know who okayed the match with Ronda. Gulak walks in and she wants him to interview her in the ring because she’s mad he interrupted. He’s clearly about to get beat down by a woman.

Ripley vs. Naomi

Ripley appears to be out of protocol. She’s taking on Naomi and I assume their tag team match will be back on for Raw. Apparently, this match was originally planned for it to be Sasha Banks and Ripley, but it was changed late before the show.

Ripley picks up the win here. Both members of Ripley and Morgan have picked up singles wins. This is kind of counterproductive to the story that Liv is letting the team down. Also, it doesn’t make the tag team champs look great. Ripley looked really good in victory.

Naomi has charisma. Naomi is athletic. Naomi does not have believable offense on occasion. Her kicks often look soft and clearly don’t make contact. I know it’s pro wrestling, but I still want to see moves that I believe might actually hurt someone and don’t take the magic away.

RKBro

SmackDown is happy to see RKBro. Riddle and Orton are here and they call out The Usos. The Usos come right on down to the ring.

Well, that was fantastic. The Usos do their typical promo. It was good. However, Randy Orton went to another level. He talked about loving their families and he knew who they were. He says the rest of their family is great, but they are a-holes. He then said the big dog let them off the leash. I can’t describe exactly how fired up Orton was, but I don’t recall ever seeing him in that state. That made me want to see the match and very rarely does a WWE promo accomplish that.

By the way, they accepted to fight.

Up next, Naomi and Rhea Ripley are doing battle. There was a lack of charisma promo segment backstage before the match.
