WWE SmackDown Live Results – February 5, 2019

Jeff Hardy def. Daniel Bryan via DQ – 03:00am

We kick off with Bryan on top early but the action was marred by Corey and Byron bickering like 13-year-old girls as per usual.

Bryan lands a flying kick in the corner, and follows up with multiple more to deck Hardy.

The WWE Champion goes for a submission but Hardy counters it leveraging a pin for a nearfall. Jeff knocks Bryan out the ring, and goes for a flying attack off the ringsteps, but Rowan’s presence causes him to hesitate and Bryan takes advantage as we go to commercials.

Bryan is on top when we come back, but vintage Jeff Hardy offense scores him a nearfall. The two then exchange blows in the middle of the ring, with Bryan reversing a Twist of Fate attempt.

Jeff launches Bryan out the ring and flies onto him with a crossbody off the apron. He rolls D-Bry back in and climbs to the top looking for the Swanton, but the champion rolls to the opposite corner when he kicks Jeff for a nearfall.

Bryan hits the “Yes!” Kicks, but Hardy manages to dodge the final one, before hitting a Twist of Fate followed up by a Swanton.

Before he can get the pin though, Rowan pulls him out the ring and assaults him throwing the match out, before sliding him back in for Bryan to lock in the LeBell lock.

Samoa Joe appears next though, choking out Bryan with the Coquina. He’s closely followed by Orton and Ali. Ali takes out both men and attempts a dive onto Rowan but is caught and slammed onto the announce table.

Former WWE Champion AJ Styles is out next though, for some reason he gets his entrance music and tron unlike the other guys. He goes after Joe and lands the Phenomenal Forearm on Jeff as Bryan and Rowan stand at the top of the stage.

That was probably one of the weaker episodes of SmackDown in recent memory from what I can remember right now. Nothing of note really happened, the Becky Lynch angle was baffling and all the matches sort of underdelivered. Not a bad show, but not a memorable one either.

Rose & Deville def. Naomi & Carmella, The IIconics – 02:29am

So Naomi and Carmella are the sixth and final team in the Women’s Tag Title Chamber match, and they are calling themselves “Fabulous Glow”. How creative.

The match starts with Carmella and Sonya, with Mandy tagging in quick… and then tagging out quick to Billie Kay of the IIconic who is now legal with Naomi as we head to commercials.

We come back with Carmella and Royce legal. Carmella goes for a crucifix pin for a nearfall followed up by a superkick before Rose tags in for the Aussie.

Carmella tags Naomi in who goes straight after Mandy, but Sonya tags in. Naomi cares not and takes out pretty much everyone that isn’t Mandy, before Royce tags her in and Naomi finally gets her hands on Rose after weeks of build.

Naomi hits the Rear View on Peyton, but walks into a Bed of Roses from Mandy who picks up the win.

Bryan’s New Title Is A Symbol For Change – 02:12am

The crowd were firmly behind Bryan in his home state of Washington, and the WWE Champion acknowledges this saying he’s finally in front of people that understand him.

Bryan says he’s fighting an uphill battle in spreading his message to a global audience, hence why he debuted his gorgeous new belt. He says the last WWE Title was a symbol of excellence and a symbol of excess, but this new belt is a symbol for change.

Rowan says that people fear change, and therefore fear Daniel Bryan, and as long as Bryan is champion that fear will continue.

Bryan tells the crowd off for giving Rowan the “what?” treatment, before going on to complain about having to defend the WWE Title against five other men inside Elimination Chamber, before we cut to a vignette showing us what an Elimination Chamber is and how the match works.

After Bryan is finished, we go to Jeff Hardy for a backstage interview and calls Bryan a “madman”. He calls him this stood there in facepaint and a WWE 2K19 hoodie.

AJ Styles then appears, and he and Hardy exchange heated words before departing.

Randy Orton def. Mustafa Ali – 01:54am

After a chop from Ali kicked things off, Orton took the upper hand using his power advantage, and slamming Ali onto the announce table.

Back in the ring, a powerslam from Orton scored a nearfall, and he followed up by attempting a superplex from the top rope for another two-count as we go to commercials once more.

We come back with the ‘Apex Predator’ still on top, but a dropkick from Ali looks to get him back into it. Orton rolls out the ring though and tries to slam Ali onto the announce table again. Ali counters and flies into Orton over the announce table.

The two get back in the ring and Ali hits a sequence of kicks to stun Orton, and counters a hangman DDT into a slingshot X-Factor for a nearfall.

Mustafa goes for a springboard DDT, and Orton goes to counter with an RKO. Ali manages to check himself though and the hesitation allows him to connect successfully.

He goes to the top rope for a 540, but Orton pulls him down into an RKO and picks up the win.

Samoa Joe appears OUTTA NOWHERE, and locks Orton in the Coquina before kicking Ali out the ring. As he is walking back up the ramp, WWE Champion Daniel Bryan comes out.

Joe marches towards Bryan until Rowan also comes onto the stage, and Joe checks himself and heads to the back. Daniel Bryan is apparently about to file a complaint against WWE…

Rusev & Nakamura def. Gallows & Anderson – 01:30am

Rusev and Shinsuke start the match in conflict, with the Bulgarian tagging himself in much to Shin’s dismay. The two bicker a bit before Anderson rolls up Rusev for a nearfall. The ring is cleared as Anderson takes out both opponents and we go to commercials.

We come back to Anderson and Nakamura in the ring, with Shinsuke landing an exploder suplex. He goes for a Kinshasa but Anderson counters into a spinebuster.

Gallows and Rusev tag in and collide in the ring with a double clothesline. Lana pulls Nakamura into the corner so he can tag Rusev. He doesn’t make it but does prevent a Magic Killer on Rusev, allowing the ‘Super Athlete’ to land a Machka Kick on Ando for the win.

I think the general consensus is Nakamura and Rusev don’t fit as a team, but I don’t particularly agree with that. I think the way they put them together was silly, but they could genuinely work as a unit and add a much needed boost to the tag division. Or they could just split them up again in two weeks.

Becky Lynch Slaps Triple H, And Rightfully So – 01:16am

SmackDown opens with Charlotte Flair making her way to the ring, and we see a replay of the opening segment of last night’s Raw with Steph McMahon suspending Becky Lynch.

Flair accuses Lynch of being arrogant and says it was her “rogue behavior” that got her suspended.

Charlotte says she knows someone who is 100% healthy and would love to face Rousey at WrestleMania. She points to the big ‘Mania sign, but then notices Lynch walking down through the crowd.

A bunch of refs and Jamie Noble’s pal that isn’t Joey Mercury come out to try and restrain the pair before they come to blows.

Triple H then comes out and tells Becky to go home and see the doctor. He does, however, say that this doesn’t concern Charlotte and orders her to go away. On behalf of everyone, thanks Trips.

Hunter is about to leave the ring before Becky asks how Steph is after punching her in the face last night. Triple H says that Becky isn’t the ‘Man’ at all, and is just a “self-destructor afraid of failure”.

The ‘Game’ then says that Becky purposely went to Raw before Survivor Series so she could get injured and find a way out, a convenient excuse to not have to face Rousey, and accuses Becky of doing the same thing again now. He even said he doubts Lynch is even injured.

They get in each other’s faces and Becky slaps the ‘King of Kings’, before he walks away.

That segment started off quite well with Charlotte heeling it up and mocking Becky’s injury, but descended into stupidity with Triple H’s absurdly forced and unnecessary accusations.

Preview

As Elimination Chamber draws closer taking place a week on Sunday, we are due tonight what looks to be a pretty darn good episode of SmackDown Live.

Confirmed for the show tonight is a first-time-ever bout between 13-time WWE World Champion Randy Orton and former 205 Live star Mustafa Ali. This could be excellent if executed to perfection, with the ultra-babyface Ali contrasting with sadistic heel Orton potentially making for a great match.

Both those men will compete in the six-man Elimination Chamber match for the WWE Championship on February 17, as will Jeff Hardy and current reigning champion Daniel Bryan, who are also set to go one-on-one tonight.

Bryan introduced us to his gorgeous eco-friendly WWE Championship belt last week, before Hardy, Orton, Ali, Samoa Joe and the man Bryan beat for the belt AJ Styles interrupted him and Triple H made the Chamber match.

That wasn’t the only major development on SmackDown last week, as R-Truth defeated Shinsuke Nakamura for the United States Championship just two days after Shinsuke won the belt back from Rusev at the Royal Rumble. Speaking of Rusev, he actually came out after Truth won the belt and challenged him, only for Truth to successfully retain.

What followed was a two-on-one beatdown on Truth via Nakamura and Rusev. This is despite the latter two feuding the better part of three months. They then bumped into Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson backstage, things got a bit feisty, and a match was made between the two teams for tonight. There is one team yet to be confirmed for the Women’s Tag Team Title Elimination Chamber match. Two SmackDown teams have already declared their entry (despite Raw teams having to qualify) in Absolution and the IIconics, so one would assume the final team will be confirmed tonight.

SmackDown Tag Team Champions, the ‘Co-Besties’ Shane McMahon and The Miz, will defend their titles against the Usos after Jimmy and Jey defeated New Day, Heavy Machinery, and the Bar in a four-way elimination match last week, so we could also see some sort of advancement in that particular direction.
