It has been announced by Smackdown Live General Manager Paige, that next week, Asuka will battle James Ellsworth in a Lumberjack Match. The news comes after ‘The Empress of Tomorrow’ and Carmella’s right-hand man fought to a bizarre double count-out on Tuesday’s edition of the blue brand.
The Japanese sensation hasn’t had the best of times recently, first WWE booked her undefeated streak to end at the hands of Charlotte at WrestleMania 34, and then she suffered a further pinfall loss to Carmella at Money in the Bank. This latest storyline has left many questioning WWE on what they’re doing with the star.
Whilst Asuka will once again challenge Carmella for the Smackdown Live Women’s Championship at Extreme Rules on July 15, we can firmly assume that the ‘Princess of Staten Island’ will have some part to play in next week’s affair. Either way, a victory for the former NXT Women’s Champion is terribly overdue.
Do you think Asuka’s streak should have ended at WrestleMania 34? What are your thoughts on how she’s being currently being booked? Let us know on Twitter and Discord where you can chat with Oli and your favorite writers.
