Many NXT stars made their way up to the WWE main roster during the 2023 Draft, including then-NXT Women’s Champion Indi Hartwell and current NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn.
Fyre and Dawn defended the titles against Katana Chance and Kayden Carter on their final night in NXT, and remain the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions while on SmackDown.
Speaking to former WWE star Mark Andrews on My Love Letter to Wrestling, Alba and Isla spoke about the NXT system, believing that it works if you are willing to let it.
They said:
Isla Dawn: I think there are a few differences, but NXT does do its job. It clearly works. It clearly works because we’re sitting here today, still NXT champions on SmackDown. The system does work if you’re willing to let it work.
Alba Fyre: We came at it like a new school.
Isla Dawn: Everything now, we’re like, ‘this is why we’re so drilled.’ In training, we’re doing these different drills. First day of SmackDown, I was terrified, and then I got in, I walked into the women’s locker room. It’s lots of people from NXT, lots of people I’ve never met before, but they brought me in. Tamina, I have met once, and she immediately took me in like I was her child. She is the loveliest woman alive.
Alba Fyre: Everyone is so welcome and so genuinely happy and supportive. We thought it was going to be a lot more scary, but it’s been a good comfort for us.
Alba and Isla defeated Yulisa Leon and Valentina Feroz in the first match as members of the SmackDown brand.
They were confronted by WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler on last week’s SmackDown, with the two sets of champions setting up a title unification match.
