There has been a major departure from AEW as a former world champion is now gone from the promotion and is expected to join WWE.
At the Revolution pay-per-view in early March, Toni Storm defeated Mariah May in what was billed as a “Hollywood Ending” for their Women’s World Championship feud.
Since then, May had not been used on TV, with reports emerging that her contract was coming up this year and she’d be interested in joining WWE.
Today, Mariah May has been removed from the official AEW website roster page, so she’s gone from the company.
PWInsider reports that they’ve heard from WWE sources over the last week that May is expected to start with WWE “in the near future”.
May joined AEW on a two-year deal in 2023, and had been engaged in a storyline with Storm from her debut up to her final match.
She started out as Storm’s protege, ultimately turning on Storm and beating her for the world championship at All In London in August 2024.
Storm won the title back at Grand Slam Australia this past February, and is the current champion, set to defend against Mercedes Mone at All In Texas on July 12.
