Major AEW Star Has Left The US

Taking to Twitter, AEW World Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida has revealed that she is no longer in America after returning home to Japan, implying she’ll miss the next few weeks of AEW television due to quarantine regulations.

The champion said that she has returned to Japan for the women’s tournament, which will see 16 women (eight from Japan and eight from America) compete for a title shot.

In case you missed the announcement on AEW Dynamite this week, the following 16 women are going to compete in the tournament for the right to challenge Hikaru Shida, with half the matches taking place in Japan and the other half in the US.

Japanese side:

  • Aja Kong
  • Yuka Sakazaki
  • Veny
  • Emi Sakura
  • Ryo Mizunami
  • Mei Suruga
  • Rin Kadokura
  • Maki Itoh

American side:

  • Serena Deeb
  • Riho
  • Britt Baker
  • Tay Conti
  • Thunder Rosa
  • Nyla Rose
  • Anna Jay
  • Leyla Hirsch

As of right now, there is no word on how AEW is planning on broadcasting the tournament matches, with some speculating that the majority could make up their own YouTube show, as AEW did with the women’s tag team tournament last summer.

There is also no word on how Hikaru Shida is going to be involved with the Japanese side of the tournament, and when she is slated to return to America. For any additional information on that, make sure you stay tuned to WrestleTalk.com.
