In order to crown its inaugural tag team champions, AEW will be holding a tournament featuring 7 teams, with the winners getting the shiny new belts.
The teams involved, as you can see from the bracket below, are The Young Bucks, Private Party, The Lucha Bros, Jurassic Express, Best Friends, SCU and the Dark Order.
The Dark Order received a bye in the quarter final after winning against the Best Friends at All Out.
One of the favourites for many are the current AAA tag champions, the Lucha Bros, but there could be a bit of an issue with that.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Fenix and Pentagon Jr already have a booking on the night of the semi-finals, which could very well mean that they will not be progressing to that stage of the tournament.
Of course, the card is subject to change and the Luchas may pull out of their other commitment, but it’s definitely something that could happen, as the Jurassic Express team of Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy certainly seem to be a team that AEW is looking to push.
We will keep you updated with any further information.
