Details have emerged regarding backstage conflict between the WWE main roster and NXT creative teams surrounding one particular star this year.
Charlotte Flair won the Royal Rumble in January and went on to beat Rhea Ripley for the NXT Women’s Title in the best match at WrestleMania, which obviously meant there was some crossing over involving Flair between Raw and NXT.
Fightful Select is reporting that the NXT creative team often had its own ideas and plans for Flair on the brand, but because they’d have to go through the Raw team, they got shot down.
The major part of this is that, originally, Ripley was actually going to beat Flair at WrestleMania, but it ended up getting changed to Flair winning.
There was also a big push for Bianca Belair to be added to the feud sooner than she was, which seemingly would have led to a three-way with Belair taking the pin from Ripley, meaning Flair wouldn’t have been pinned, but Ripley would still have retained.
Instead, Flair won, and Ripley’s position on the card has pretty much dwindled ever since. One NXT talent told Fightful that the NXT team should have known what they were getting into.
