A major championship change took place to close out tonight’s AEW Worlds End pay-per-view event in Chicago.

At AEW Full Gear, Samoa Joe ended the reign of Hangman Adam Page in the show’s main event, before Swerve Strickland made his return, fighting off Joe and the Opps and aiding his old rival Hangman.

It was then confirmed that a three-way would take place at Worlds End between Joe, Hangman and Swerve for the AEW World Championship, before MJF made his return to the company, exercising his contract to make the match a four-way.

The four-way match closed out the show, with MJF ultimately pinning Samoa Joe to win the AEW World Championship, becoming a two-time AEW World Champion.

MJF’s first AEW World Championship reign ended at Worlds End back in 2023 at the hands of Samoa Joe, with MJF now avenging that defeat to end Joe’s second reign with the belt.

MJF joins Jon Moxley, Adam Page, CM Punk and Samoa Joe as the only multi-time AEW World Champions in the company’s history.

MJF is set to speak on next week’s AEW New Year’s Smash episode of Dynamite.
