A major change to WWE SmackDown going forward has been confirmed during today’s June 27 episode of the show.
At the start of the year, SmackDown made the move to being three hours long instead of two, which Triple H repeatedly asserted was just temporary.
The change back to two hours has now been officially confirmed.
Tonight, Michael Cole on commentary stated that WWE SmackDown will be two hours starting next week, July 4.
That show is actually being pre-taped after Raw on Monday, June 30 in Pittsburgh due to July 4 being a holiday, which means Raw is starting two hours earlier than usual.
There had been some speculation that the July 4 SmackDown would be two hours due to that specific show being pre-taped and then the three hours would resume from then onwards, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
Michael Cole specifically said in his announcement that SmackDown will be going to two hours “each and every week” starting next week.
Today’s pre-Night of Champions episode saw Giulia defeat Zelina Vega to win the Women’s United States Championship.
