Roman Reigns has been white hot since his return at SummerSlam, and WWE has huge plans for his Universal Title reign after he won the strap at Payback.
As per WrestlingNews.co, a source in WWE said that Vince McMahon wants Reigns to hold the title until at least WrestleMania 37 in April of 2021.
The source noted that “Vince is not playing around”, and the games with silly verbiage in promos are done with.
As has been noted previously, WWE realises the heel turn is actually likely to lead to positive reaction for Roman Reigns when fans return, and the eventual plan is still for him to be an ultra babyface a lá John Cena.
It’s been speculated that Paul Heyman – Reigns’ new on-screen manager – may have had some creative influence on the match at Payback, the ring break spot in particular. It’s known that Heyman often does have such a level of influence when it comes to the wrestlers he’s working with, which hopefully will benefit Reigns.
This is Reigns’ second run as Universal Champion. His first lasted from August to October in 2018 as he had to relinquish the title without being beaten for it due to being diagnosed with leukaemia.
