There has been a lot of chatter on the Internet today about AEW’s media rights deal with Warner Bros Discovery, which is set to come up in the next year.
A rumour emerged earlier today that the new deal would be announced at the WBD Upfronts next Wednesday, and we now have an update on the deal.
Per Fightful Select (subscription required), those that Fightful have spoken to have said that the upcoming Collision show in prime time on WBD is part of a new cash infusion for AEW, as well as an extension of the partnership between the two sides.
Sources from WBD have said that the deal is planned to be announced ‘around the time of’ the Warner Upfronts, set to take place next Wednesday (May 17).
There has been discussion and rumours both online and within the two companies about this deal being a billion dollar deal over several years, which could end up being true if all the deals are extrapolated.
However, sources from WBD had indicated that the rumoured AEW Collision show is the planned upcoming announcement, rather than an all-encompassing deal including Dynamite. Sources from AEW and WBD have also not confirmed a dollar figure for the deal.
In regards to rumours last month of WBD and WWE having talks, representatives from both sides had not heard that, and quickly debunked the rumours.
Fightful also revealed plans for AEW Collision, including a ‘marquee’ match being planned, which can be seen here.
The card for next week’s edition of AEW Dynamite is as follows:
No Holds Barred – Julia Hart vs. Anna Jay
Open House Rules match for the AEW Trios Championship – House of Black (c) vs. Bandido & Best Friends
AEW International Championship – Orange Cassidy (c) vs. Daniel Garcia
Double Jeopardy Match – Claudio Castagnoli vs. Rey Fenix
Steel Cage Match – Kenny Omega vs. Jon Moxley
