Major Update On Naomi’s WWE Future? WWE

A huge update has emerged on former SmackDown Women’s Champion Naomi, ahead of Mercedes Varnado’s (Sasha Banks) upcoming NJPW appearance.

As previously reported, Banks is expected to make an appearance at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4.

Per PWInsider, Trinity Fatu, better known to WWE fans as Naomi, is also slated to be in Japan.

The report noted that NJPW sources would not confirm that they’re bringing Naomi in for Wrestle Kingdom 17.

It was reportedly indicated that Fatu is coming ‘off her own accord’, so it is possible that she will just be in Japan to support Varnado.

Considering that Varnado is reportedly working out a deal with NJPW, it is interesting that Fatu will be around while The Boss is in talks with the Japanese promotion.

Varnado and Fatu haven’t wrestled since walking out on the May 16, 2022 WWE Raw taping.

Varnado is now a free agent, able to take wrestling bookings, and is not expected to return to WWE.

It has been speculated that Varnado will confront IWGP Women’s Champion KAIRI at Wrestle Kingdom 17, after recently teasing a rivalry on social media.

In December, Dave Meltzer reported that Fatu originally planned to return to WWE with Varnado, which doesn’t seem likely. Per Meltzer:

“(Fatu) was told her decision would be to sit at home, to go elsewhere (her contract was about to expire when she left although they could freeze it and force her back for a very short period of time, but that really wouldn’t make sense) or to return without Banks.”
