As we reported yesterday, Daniel Bryan and John Cena are both still expected to miss Crown Jewel in protest at WWE’s decision to run the event in Saudi Arabia in light of the Jamal Khashoggi situation.
Robbie Fox of Barstool Sports first broke the news and has offered an update on how WWE to deal with their absences.
It seems like the plan is for John Cena to be replaced on this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW, and for AJ Styles/Daniel Bryan to be advertised as if it is happening right up until the event, but Bryan will not be there. Some sort of pre-tape is being discussed now.

So once Evolution is done and dusted on Monday, WWE will likely shoot an angle on Raw to remove Cena (it will be interesting to see what excuse is used for why he is not there) and replace him with some other unlucky chap.
In terms of Bryan it seems WWE is happy to false advertise his appearance at Crown Jewel, which may still include another angle setting up the match on SmackDown.
Who AJ will wrestle in his place, if anyone, is unclear. Based on Fox’s tweet, there could be an angle shot to air at Crown Jewel where Bryan is attacked and the attacker takes his place. Samoa Joe seems like the obvious choice for that.
