A major WWE ‘ally’ is reportedly set to depart their position as vice chairman at an important partner company.
As reported by Variety, NBCUniversal vice chairman Bonnie Hammer is set to depart the company at the end of her existing contract.
NBCUniversal is the parent company of the USA Network, which currently airs both WWE SmackDown and Raw, ahead of the latter’s move to Netflix in January.
Hammer has long been known as an ally to WWE dating back to the nineties, helping the company overcome WCW in the Monday Night War with WCW.
As detailed in a memoir published earlier this year, Hammer worked as a liaison between NBCUniversal and WWE since 1995.
According to Hammer, she helped introduce several changes to WWE during the mid 90s in order to give them the edge over WCW including hiring TV writers to develop greater storylines and place a greater emphasis on women as characters.
She called working with WWE over a 30-year period a “highlight” of her career, a career that spanned over four decades in the TV business, working on popular shows over the years including ‘Suits’, ‘Mr. Robot’, ‘Monk’ and Battlestar Galactica among others.
