WWE, For Your Consideration

As rumoured by Forbes a few weeks back, WWE are indeed campaigning to get themselves nominated for an Emmy award.

The company hosted a ‘For Your Consideration” event last night in North Hollywood where they showed off a selection of their programming to media bigwigs.

Fortunately it wasn’t their Pulitzer winning expose of the least convincing women of all time,

But guest were reportedly shown Raw’s 25th anniversary special, the Mixed Match challenge and the Empowered episode of WWE 24 – which is thought to have the best chance of getting a nom.

The event also saw WWE bringing out the big guns, as in the man with the biggest guns I’ve seen, The Rock. Who opened the show with a special video message, making this his first appearance for the company since Wrestlemania 32.

A bunch of other superstars walked the red carpet, like Sasha Banks, Charlotte Flair and Roman Reigns.

Triple H and Stephanie even shared a little smooch, a classic work.

Winning an Emmy appears to have been Steph’s plan for a while.

Which means they probably have a great plan for when they do win that Emmy – tease a rebrand as Emmylina, forget all about it, redebut as just Emmy and then future endeavour that trophy. Bye Emmylina.

WWE Ratings

Not winning any prizes, except worst in ages, were this week’s Smackdown ratings.

Despite there being no playoffs for NBA shooty hoops or NHL Ice fighting on the box, Smackdown averaged just 2.138 million viewers.

That’s the lowest number since June last year and the third lowest rating since the brand split and the move to Tuesday nights.

It’ll be real bad when Nakamura is counting out the viewers on his hands. 1… 2… 3…

But a slight silver lining is that the episode did maintain the usual 85 percent of Raw‘s audience from the night before… which was also one of the lowest numbers in that show’s history bringing in just 2.52 million viewers.

Thought that was a silver lining, just another cloud.

Major Brock Lesnar Plans Leaked?

Perhaps one of the reasons for the viewings drop off on Raw is that the Universal Champion, unlike other universal objects, say the sun, can’t be seen every week.

Brock Lesnar’s part-time schedule means Raw is lacking a champion who even turns up, thanks to Roman Reigns for pointing that one out. So how can anyone care when the top prize is essentially out of reach?

Well according to Sports Illustrated’s WWE sources, it may not matter much longer, as Lesnar is expected to drop the belt by SummerSlam at the latest.

And because Lesnar is paid on a per match basis, losing the title could mean leaving WWE.

Which also means that his advocate and man in desperate need of a lozenge Paul Heyman could also be finished with the company as there are no plans beyond him being the mouth piece for the beast, wrestling’s Dr Doolittle.

Now here’s where we get into pure truther territory as SummerSlam is in August 19, which if Lesnar drops the belt and Heyman goes too, leaves the latter a free agent just in time for All In on September 1st in Chicago.

And there’s a certain Paul Heyman guy rumoured to be appearing at that show.

If that happens there’ll be Punk everywhere, in the ring, backstage, on my tshirt.
