Major WWE Champion Stripped Of Title Belt

Well that was short and sweet. Just a few days after Becky Lynch relinquished her Raw Women’s Championship, WWE has stripped Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn of his title.

Zayn won the belt in a 3-on-1 handicap match against current Universal Champion Braun Strowman back at Elimination Chamber 2020, but has barely appeared on WWE TV since after opting to stay at home and now work shows during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It was confirmed on last night’s WWE Backstage that Sami had been stripped of the belt due to being unable to defend it, forgetting all the times Brock Lesnar took months off during his recent title reigns.

A tournament to crown a new champion will start on this Friday’s SmackDown, but the entrants have not been announced as of yet.

It’s a real shame for Sami Zayn, who finally appeared to be getting a push as a singles star on the main roster, with the IC title being his first since being called up from NXT several years ago.

There are plenty of names you could see going for the vacated belt on the blue brand, with Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler likely candidates as things stand.
