During an exclusive interview with WrestleTalk’s Louis Dangoor, WWE Hall of Famer DDP spoke about a variety of topics, including his time with WCW, his match with AEW this year and his relationship with Cody.
In the interview, DDP revealed that WWE Raw star and former Universal Champion Kevin Owens called The Young Bucks after Cody left WWE in 2016 and suggested that they bring Cody into The Elite:
“From what I understand, it was because of Kevin, Kevin Owens. He had called up The Bucks, who he was good friends with, and said ‘Cody’s a solid cat’. You know, you guys might want to pull him in to your group. Of course, we know what happened there. That year, Cody made like seven figures.”
As DDP noted, the following year was an incredibly successful one for Cody. Diamond Dallas Page revealed that the year after leaving WWE, Cody made seven figures on the independent scene.
As we now know, Cody went on to join Bullet Club/The Elite after leaving WWE, and formed AEW earlier this year with The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and Tony Khan last year. Perhaps we have Kevin Owens to thank for that.
The rest of the interview, which will be released tomorrow, sees DDP open up about why he decided to wrestle for AEW earlier this year, advice that was given to him by Dusty Rhodes, and much more.
