Major WWE Star Reveals He Wanted To Go To NJPW Before Returning To WWE

Drew McIntyre is on top of the world right now. The current WWE Champion is coming off two successful title defences in as many days and is one of the people positioned at the top of Raw. However, this could all have not happened.

McIntyre recently revealed he was going to go to New Japan Pro Wrestling before Triple H contacted him about returning to WWE. He had the following to say in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated:

“Before Hunter called me to come back to WWE, the place I was going next was Japan. My style would be perfect there and I could learn so much. The two opponents on the top of my list were Tanahashi and Okada. Ospreay would be great, as well. I wrestled him outside of WWE in a couple of my favorite matches. But still, I have to go with Tanahashi and Okada.”

McIntyre revealed he would have liked to have faced Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Will Ospreay, arguably the three best wrestlers in the world.

McIntyre instead returned to WWE on their NXT brand in 2017. He quickly won the NXT Championship from Bobby Roode and was called up to the main roster in 2018.
