Former WWE star Mandy Rose has revealed her initial reaction to WWE moving her to the developmental NXT brand.
After almost four years on the main roster, Rose rejoined NXT in July 2021, ahead of the brand’s ‘2.0’ reboot that September.
Rose had a lot of success during her second run on the gold brand, forming the Toxic Attraction team with Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolin, and holding the NXT Women’s Title for 413 days.
Speaking on the Power Alpha’s podcast, Rose noted that she saw the move back to NXT as an opportunity to reinvent herself, admitting that she wasn’t a fan of what she was doing on the main roster at that moment.
Recalling the phone call on which she found out she was Orlando-bound, Rose said:
“For me, right away, when I got that call (about going to ‘NXT’), I looked at it like a light bulb went off. I went, ‘Oh, this could be so great for me.
“I’ve been wanting to change my character. I’m getting tired of the hot homewrecker, beauty and the beast stuff, ‘God’s Greatest Creation,’ ‘Golden Goddess,’ I think there needs to be change. I think there always needs to be change because we all evolve over time.
“(I) wasn’t very happy with what I was doing at that moment, so in my head, I looked at it as a positive reinforcement of like, this could be something really big and really new and innovative for me.”
Rose was released by WWE on December 14, the day after she dropped the NXT Women’s Title to Roxanne Perez.
The former WWE star recently shared a message for the names let go in the September 2023 round of WWE cuts, which you can read more about right here.
