Former AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May has addressed her absence amid rumors she could be heading to WWE.
May has not been seen since she lost to Toni Storm in their “Hollywood Ending” match at AEW Revolution 2025 in early March.
May is reportedly in a contract year with AEW, and there’s been a belief that she could be leaving the promotion when her deal comes up and joining WWE, or at least letting her deal expire to see what WWE would offer her.
That would explain her absence from TV in the sense that Tony Khan has done similar with the likes of the Lucha Bros and Ricky Saints when he believed they wanted to leave for WWE – removing them from TV for the last few months (for Saints, almost a year) of their contracts.
A fan tweeted a photo of May today, with the quote:
“one day, many years from now, someone will ask, whatever happened to @MariahMayx?”
May responded by replying:
god forbid a girl takes a vacation
May signed with AEW in 2023 on a two-year deal, spending pretty much the entirety of her tenure to this point in a storyline with Toni Storm where she started out as Storm’s protege before becoming her bitter rival.
The run included a 174-day reign as AEW Women’s World Champion for May, winning the title at All In London 2024 in Wembley Stadium.
