Marty Scurll has not appeared for any promotion since the pandemic began. He was relieved of his position in Ring of Honor after he was accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year old girl during the Speaking Out movement last June.
Now, Fightful Select has reported that Scurll was recently backstage at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s tapings. The report states that Scurll was backstage at NJPW Strong recently, although it was not clear if he had any involvement.
They note that Scurll has expressed interest in joining the company. Marty Scurll made his return to New Japan right before the pandemic hit, challenging Jay White to a match at ROH Supercard of Honor. The match never took place due to the pandemic.
Scurll does have a history with the promotion, wrestling as part of The Elite from 2017-2019. He held the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship in 2017, and competed in multiple Best of the Super Juniors tournaments.
The report also states that Fightful does not know if New Japan has any interest in using Scurll. We will provide more details as soon as they become available.
