Matt Cardona has reacted to Drew McIntyre defeating Cody Rhodes to win the Undisputed WWE Championship.
This title change took place during the Three Stages of Hell match on the January 9 edition of SmackDown, with Drew McIntyre winning the final stage – the Steel Cage match – following Jacob Fatu’s interference.
Earlier on in the show, several WWE stars stated their intentions to become WWE Champion, including Matt Cardona, who officially returned to the company on January 2.
Matt Cardona took to Instagram following the show to share a photo from his segment with Cody Rhodes from before the title change, during which he told Rhodes that his goal is to win the WWE Championship.
Doubling down, Cardona captioned his post:
“I know my bud (Cody Rhodes) will become a 3 time champ, but there’s 1 championship that’s eluded me my entire career…
I’M NOT FINISHED!”
Matt Cardona will face Trick Williams on the January 16 SmackDown episode.
The winner of this match – and three other singles matches on SmackDown – will advance to a four-way match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 24, to determine Drew McIntyre’s WWE Championship challenger for Royal Rumble on January 31.
