Matt Cardona Shares Honest Thoughts On Recent WWE Mentions AEW/WWE

Matt Cardona has commented on recent mentions of his name by WWE stars and fans and suggested it was time to ‘pump the brakes’.

Cardona found himself referenced during John Cena’s recent WWE SmackDown promo, which also saw Nic Nemeth and Claudio Castagnoli mentioned.

The former Zack Ryder then found himself the subject of fan chants at WWE Night of Champions on June 28 and went on to acknowledge the love from the fans in Saudi Arabia.

During a recent appearance on Notsam Wrestling Live!, Cardona addressed the recent mentions, sharing his love that the fans still think about him, saying:

“Well, first, people were just sending me the video (of fans at WWE Night of Champions chanting my name) with no context and I’m at this loud wedding, I’m watching this video, it’s just Triple H talking.

“I’m like, ‘What is going on here?’ I went to the back, I went, ‘Ohhh! I see what they’re chanting.’

“Listen, it’s great, I love it. I love that the fans still think about me, certainly that they’re still chanting for me and you know me, Sam, I’ll take any publicity. I will run with it. This one, I didn’t necessarily overexpose. I was kind of heavy on the (John) Cena, overexposing the ‘hey.’”

Cardona would then speak about a recent episode of What Do You Wanna Talk About? With Cody Rhodes, in which Kevin Owens took issue with the former WWE star discussing the company, saying:

“Then Cody (Rhodes) and K.O. were, you know, I think they were half-burying me on their podcast.

“So I’m like, alright, let’s pump the brakes a little bit here.”

During the episode of the show, Owens questioned Cardona calling himself the “king of the indies” while talking also questioning why WWE haven’t re-signed him, with Rhodes laughing at the comment.

Cardona has previously shared his surprise that WWE haven’t re-signed him, having been released by the company in April 2020.
