Matt Hardy Was Once Pitched To Delete All Of TNA Wrestling

The run of Broken Matt Hardy in TNA Wrestling was by far the best presentation of the character. However, it seems we never got to see how far the character could have been taken.

Replying to Garrett Kidney on Twitter, Hardy confirmed that there was once a pitch for him to delete the entire promotion of TNA Wrestling. This would have taken place at the end of Apocalypto and would have seen the company undergo a rebrand.

Matt Hardy was the star of a number of cinematic matches during his time with TNA. He and Jeff Hardy wrestled in the Final Deletion, the Hardys teamed up to face Decay in the Delete or Decay match, and they competed in Tag Team Apocalypto. The sky was the limit for the newfound character.

Instead, Hardy and his brother Jeff left the promotion just two months later. They traveled to Ring of Honor where they entered into a feud with the Young Bucks. This didn’t last particularly long as the Hardys returned to WWE at WrestleMania 33 in March 2017.

While Matt Hardy did wrestle Bray Wyatt in The Ultimate Deletion in WWE, they never went further with the character. Hardy left WWE in March 2020 before arriving at his current home, AEW.
